Spy Kids: Armageddon

The weirdness of the first few entries has long since evaporated from the Spy Kids franchise. And while there’s still something endearing in the way that these adventures feel like they could have been written by their young protagonists, this is sorely missing the imagination of the initial trilogy. This is completely perfunctory children’s entertainment, which is all it needs to be, but it’s a lot more tepid than Rodriguez’s previous enjoyable exploits in this field.

I am constantly amazed and how consistent Rodriguez is with the tone, the charm, the quality and the absolute childish joy of these movies. These are true movies for kids that tap into a kid's brain in a respectful and introspective way. It's not as insulting as Minions but it's not as deep as Studio Ghibli and I'm here for it. Spy Kids is a fun playground romp with great morals that you might never come back to but that's ok. Turn your brain back a couple decades and enjoy it
