Sporting Blood

Cracking melodrama about the terrible way life can treat a horse-- and humans to an extent. A lot of movies that come after, like Au hassard Balthuzar (or whatever) and Winchester '73 definitely owe it a measure of debt, even if it's creaky in spots. Surprisingly good racial sentiments make it better.

Clark Gable received his first top billing for this?! He's barely in it! It takes exactly half the movie for him to even show up. He looks dashing though. The story follows a horse and all it's owners over the years and to be honest we didn't get that close to the horse either. One that did make a cracking performance was Ernest Torrence who carries the first portion of the movie and comes back at the end for the full circle.
