Sloppy, incoherent '80s horror movie with some admittedly decent practical effects, including some farting zombie mud monsters, a voyueristic werewolf, and a surprisingly combustible grim reaper. Feels like it was edited by a drunk ceiling fan. A goldmine of unintentional comedy.

As a film, Spookies is only worth watching if you're interested in special effects. But as an experience, it is worth your time to look into the production of the film. The more you learn, the more you'll want to see how they hobbled this thing together and it makes the viewing experience slightly less baffling. Event cinema of the lowest order, get a group or just bemuse yourself like I did.

The making of story is better than the actual movie and explains a lot about how the resulting extraordinarily nonsensical and confusing story line came to be, but the creature effects are the real reason to watch (some early work by a 16 year old Gabe Bartalos is featured) and it's still a fun enjoyable while opaque watch. Would love to see a release of the original Twisted Souls cut, but I still highly recommend for those looking for oozy, grimy, Evil Dead influenced low budget film making.

Basically a Sunday School version of The Evil Dead: for every great goopy rubber gore effect, it makes the zombies fart (not figuratively) in some penance to the horror movie gods for its breach of seriousness. Even then, it has its charms. Runner-up: 70-year-on dead bride attempts escape by trying to figure out how to drive a woody station wagon. Winner: Lord, when I die, I want to be wearing a shirt of myself playing with my beloved puppets.

Featuring some pretty bad acting, a completely incoherent story, a beginning sequence that makes zero sense & has no impact on the story at all, characters with zero depth, and a ridiculously bad ending, it's not difficult to see why this was buried in obscurity for so long until its recent resurrection. Though, it's also not hard to see why it has a cult following, given all of the campy awfulness & the admittedly pretty cool creature effects to go with it. It's not much, but it's unique.

Watch this 80's B-movie for the fun low budget monster effects, and nothing else. Everything outside of the creature effects is just forgettable horror movie nonsense, and despite as much fun as farting zombies are, there isn't really much all besides some neat creature effects to warrant a recommendation. Unless you're interesting in diving into the odd story behind the production that spliced this movie together. Only for fans of low-rent 80's horror.

Stiff acting and amateurish sound editing make it unbearable for me. 20 points for some pretty cool monster FX here.

Spookies has got a little if any story behind all the armies of zombie effects. There's a few stop motion animation but mostly everything was made by masks, oozing liquids, dusty costumes and terrible sound effects. A fine poster by Richard Corben though.

Pretty idiotic but learning about the film's production mess makes me feel a little more forgiving. Worth watching for all the fun creature effects. Plus, farting zombies.

Wtf did I just watch? This movie makes less sense than Italian horror films which is an achievement in itself.
