A pretty cool monster movie. The creature was original and pretty disgusting, lots of uncomfortable limbs-twisting/removing and the main characters actually use their brains for once!

What "Splinter" does, it does well and to worthy effect. Made on an independent budget, Director Toby Wilkins brings us back to a lot of the same visual style of Carpenter's '82 film "The Thing." Similar to that, and adding in its own zombie techniques, this is a briskly entertaining 82-minute dive into cheap, old school horror - a film better than a lot of what passes for horror in cinemas these days. It's been seen before, and it's not terrifying, but it is fun and well made.

A novel concept reminiscent of The Thing. I can't help but think more could have been done, though. Perhaps the budget forced it to be limited to essentially "horror in a bottle," but I felt short-changed overall. However, it is not without merit within the genre.

Horrible Hodge-podge of the Thing and every other bad movie cliche you can think of: Criminal with a heart of gold, undying creature, blah blah blah....

That 127 hours scene though. It's impressive coming from a very low budget film.

Fast-paced horror workout is enjoyable and entertaining enough; outside of one well executed Chekov’s amputation, there’s not a great deal here that’s memorable; pulled off with requisite style by Wilkins (niggle: the queasy-cam at the climax makes it (deliberately?) difficult to see what’s going on) and performed well by its starring trio, though the screenplay never develops its characters particularly well, making their climactic sacrifices lack a certain oomph. Fun, disposable entertainment.

I usually don't mind shaky cams at all or barely notice it but in this, one barely sees what the hell is happening due to the bouncing of the camera all around. It doesn't add mystery by barely showing the monsters is it seems they intended to do, it adds confusion and make the attack scenes seem cheap and badly choregraphed.

Nothing special but a decent horror flick interspersed with dumb decision making and horror cliches but also some pretty entertaining moments and some good character development.

The shaky cam is a bit excessive in places, but the creature design is great, acting (Whigham and Costanzo) is good, and their characters decent. Not to mention their decisions are smarter than most horror films, and they actually react in disgust/fright to the things around them instead of brushing it off. Worth seeing for genre fans.

Well done fresh horror with that growing enemy and the struggle that seems impossible to overcome. Keeps you in perpetual suspense on how they'll get out of this one.

140. Splinter (2008) Canım @Tubi emaille bak bu filmi izledin izledin diye uyarınca izleyeyim dedim, kısıtlı bütçe ile bence çok iyi iş çıkarmışlar. Shea Whigham yine çok iyi. Devamı olsa izlerim. 6/10

Good acting and great idea but due I think to the low budget the effects are not up to power. Not bad at all however.

Conventional in most ways and yet not insultingly cliched, competently executed, not very scary but quite tense, and the characters, while archetypal, are definitely more interesting than usual.

Saw a clip of it in a Scariest movies you've probably never seen clip on YouTube and thought it looked interesting. I have to say unlike most other cases, I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't amazing, but it definitely had some elements that you don't often find in your typical horror flick. Mainly, I mean the characters that were not the normal cookie cutter horror archetypes.

Some minuspoints for too shaky camera-style in action-sequences. *spoiler* However a lot more minuspoints for the almost mystical disappearance of some of the infected (ok, its one infected, oh it's two infected now, oh there is a cutoff hand, oh there is another infected and another hand, oh everything is gone besides one infected, oh there is one hand again, but the other infecteds are still gone....) and the fact that the parasite went for fireworks, but not for fire.

While not nearly as scary watching it the second time as it was the first it's still a damn good movie. The characters are not your normal stock horror film idiots, they have brains and actually use them most of the time. I also enjoyed the fact that they didn't explain away the creature too much.

Derivative but surprisingly adequate low-budget (no CGI!) horror movie. Imagine The Thing set in a petrol station, with almost none of the "who's a monster" paranoia but instead a sense of tension that doesn't quite let up, a genuinely disgusting monster (insect hairs... ew) and a few laughs along the way. Nothing special, really, but at 78 minutes it never really has time to go off the rails either.

surprisingly not horrible, it's basically a less terrifying version of the thing. the monster is pretty well done and it is fairly creepy. my only problem is that it's not tense enough and the body count is minimal. dug the character development though.

Standard and by the book, but none of it is bad really...and the characters are actually above average by modern horror film standards. Still, predictable, formulaic and unremarkable, but some marginal enjoyment can be had.

I was really surprised by how good this movie was considering it was direct to DVD or made for TV or whatever. A creative monster idea and good effects. Simple setup but well-executed. Pretty standard in some ways but many horror movies have done much worse with much more at their disposal.

Not too bad. The good is Shea Whigham, Paulo Costanzo, and the initial scenes inside the gas station. There's some pretty good tension there, but it does definitely take a turn for the ridiculous (even for a monster movie) when Whigham's arm needs to come off. There's a lot of predictability, but it shouldn't be lumped in with the usual low budget sci-fi type straight to video fare. Whigham really is pretty damn good, and in my opinion, makes it worth a viewing.

Splinter is a surprisingly good low-budget horror flick. It's kind of like "The Blob", but on a smaller scale. The thing I liked most about the movie is the excellent job that the screenplay writers and the actors did to develop and humanize the characters. The movie is gruesome, extremely lean, and fun to watch in the late evening with some microwave popcorn. Recommended.
