Gentleman .... we have PG boob and tush. Shape of Water owes everything to this. Man, shitting underwater has zero elegance or grace to it. John Candy is left to die in federal prison.

A romantic comedy with a twist. Thoroughly fresh and old-fashioned at the same time. Funny and extremely well-cast.

A perfectly light, warmly funny romantic comedy that's kept afloat by Ron Howard's unobtrusive direction and charming performances from Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah.

A film greatly enhanced by John Candy and Eugene Levy. Which is true by any film they are in, actually. This came out before I was born, so I primarily know Tom Hanks as America's Great Actor from the 90s, and missed the part of his career where he's in love with a mermaid.

This film made me want to be a mermaid. I sure for sometime as a kid I probably thought I was. My parents probably wished they'd never rented this film for me because every night for like a year I splashed (no pun intended) water out of the bathtub drenching the floor in my attempt to swim like a mermaid. And watching The Little Mermaid didn't help either :-)

This is an enjoyable fantasy film. Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah work well together. The rest of the cast 0laso does a good job wit John Candy and Eugene Levy both doing a good job. The script has some good moments. Overall I would recommend this film.

A square framework with some funny plots. A Close-to-nature fishtail. Good-looking appearance of Hannah, which is more impressive than in Blade Runner. The movie could be more cunning. Some imaginations were showed a little but not explored enough, e.g., Hannah's reaction towards the violence in TV, how she learnt "fashion", that she originally expressed "love" by kiss and sex, Hanks' uncertain about his feeling until he found a word to define it.

Good-natured comedy unfortunately squanders an interesting premise on a cookie-cutter 'fish out of water' (as it were) screenplay, which begins well with a nice, eccentric sense of humour, but becomes distressingly bland and obvious as it proceeds, with exhaustive and extraneous schtick from Levy completely overwhelming the plot-line in several scenes. However a cigarette smoking Candy playing squash makes for an amusing spectacle, and Hannah is lovely and beguiling as the mermaid. What a shame!

It was time to time well made comedy. Tom Hanks and John Candy were funny and worked nicely together. Daryl Hannah used to be my sex symbol back in 80's and she managed here very good. Mermaid effects were well done, but the story. After interesting beginning, the whole thing collapsed like a house of cards. Mermaid parts were written very, very bad.

Love it, Tom Hanks gives his normal performance, but in a movie like Splash this works perfectly. Daryl Hannah is a hottie, and portrayed the mermaid wonderfully. A great family film, I would be happy to watch again. Plus John Candy has a great little performace.

Surprisingly, the problem with this movie is NOT the premise. It completely sells you on the existence of mermaids and a love story between a human and one. The problem is that the film does not seem to completely be convinced of its own premise. It takes shortcuts and falls into predictable, cookie-cutter plot points at several times. Hanks and Hannah do everything they can with the material. And by all means, view it to see where all these girls named "Madison" came from.
