Mountain girl Trigger Hicks, a fierce loner equally handy with a rock or a prayer, is in danger of having her faith-healing mistaken for witchcraft by the neighbors. She shows a vulnerable side when John Stafford, a philandering engineer working on a new dam, is attracted to her. Matters come to a head when Trigger "rescues" an abused baby from its parents, and seeks help from the engineers. (imdb)

Watching Hepburn as a religious driven outcast hillbilly sure triggered my interest. This for the most part works as a solo film where we are invited into her space with interruptions from some mountain pals and outsider engineers living in the woods nearby. But it's always her that sets the mood. And I really loved this up to the point of the confrontation with the other mountain folks. After that Spitfire kind of winded down losing it's steam and just mumbled along in it's mellow pace.

A very interestingly strange movie where Hepburn has a southern accent. Mixed with her Bostonian dialect, it sounds quite unusual.

A sweet, sentimental tale where Hepburn breaks habit by playing a rough-spoken, uneducated girl. An excellent performance.
