My dinner-while-watching versus Spectre: the gyros was meatier than the plot, the rice was steamier than the movie's love angle, and the tzatziki was more refreshing than the overly familiar structure. Doing the dishes gave me a sense of satisfaction, unlike Spectre's climax. How the hell can you make a Super Secret Evil Organisation in the Bond universe so boringggg arghhhh.

With a rotten screenplay and a bored Bond, Spectre is a tough movie to truly enjoy. You have to ignore a lot of negative things to have a good time, even if the action is quite entertaining. But it wastes its two main villains and feels more like a sightseeing tour than a cohesive narrative. Its opening sequence is one of the best of the franchise, and its action is solid throughout, but it's hard to ignore how bad this screenplay is, and how many good elements are either wasted or ruined.

50 points for the opening, 4 for the rest. So the entire Bond universe has just been about a petty family feud? James Bond has officially become Austin Powers - anybody else reminded of Dr. Evil and Scott? Starting to think maybe the next instalment will be about Bond being treated for sex addiction before he's let out into the field again. How about a Bond film where he and the girl don't even think about boning cos they've got more important things to worry about?

This achieved Brosnan-era levels of cliches, phoned-in acting, pointless car/weapon porn, and inane storytelling. I get it, Skyfall was hard to follow, but this movie was laughably ridiculous at points and seemed to lack any of the genre self-awareness and higher-brow writing that made Skyfall and CR so compelling. In between characters vomiting exposition like Reagan in The Exorcist and almost all the regressive female characters lacking any agency around Bond, I could barely stand this movie.

Really enjoyed this, and the 148 minute running time flew past. It felt balanced - the action, spectacle, plot and flashes of humour were delivered in suitable proportions. Craig acquits himself well in the role again, and the supporting cast were very good. It maybe needed a bit more Waltz. The fiendish plots and dastardly villains helped define it as a Bond film, but it never got too contrived or ludicrous. Nicely shot and directed; probably very expensively. Great fun, and well worth seeing.

Brimming with confidence and rightly so. Puts the spectacle back in Bond (without overdoing it) and elegantly connects all four films with Craig as 007. The love story is hardly believable but hey - it's James Bond.

After a great tracking shot scene at the beginning of the film everything becomes a formulaic Bond film with possibly the worst versions of every element of said formula. Useless main henchman, derivative action scenes (and maybe the most uninspired car chase ever), lame attempts at comedy, and constant exposition. It's nothing you haven't already seen before only done better and in less than 148 minutes.

Spectre had the unimaginable task of trying to match the success of Skyfall. And whilst Spectre may not prove to gain the mass appeal of Skyfall, I applaud Sam Mendes for giving lifelong James Bond fans an incredibly satisfying experience. The four films of the Daniel Craig era tie together nicely and there is a sense of completion. But most pleasingly, from the locations & costumes to the set pieces & reveals, there are so many nostalgic nods that call back to some of my favourite Bond films.

A disappointing movie that should have been amazing (the reintroduction of Blofeld and SPECTRE in modern times has endless potential), but instead it ends up being a pastiche of all the clichés the franchise should be past by now. Underwhelming for sure, but it still has some good bits for the hardcore Bond fans.

Adored it - packed with mesmerising sequences there was too much for me to take in through one viewing. All the criticisms I've read seem valid - underused stars, the masterplan is a bit flat, and it doesn't really hit the same intense emotionality as Casino Royale and Skyfall - but for a blockbuster action flick, part of an extraordinarily long franchise, it's top-notch stuff and successfully navigates its own path between Bourne and Mission Impossible - the two extremes of the superspy genre.

Such a disappointment. It starts out well enough but very quickly descends into an unoriginal, phoned-in attempt to reboot the series' old story and villain instead of doing something original. A series needs to be able to move forward if it's to succeed; it can't just keep taking steps back and saying "Remember our old movies?" Everything about "Spectre" was rushed, forced, boring, and highly unworthy of the legacy it so shamelessly gloats about being a part of.

'Spectre' has great pacing, one of the most enjoyable plots since 'Dr. No' and probably my favorite opening mission since 'From Russia with Love'. Waltz and Bellucci are curiously underused, and I wish that Sam Smith hadn't been used at all, but what's much more important is that Craig and Mendes know the role of 007 inside out in this, their second and less serious collaboration, and Fiennes, Whishaw, Bautista and Christensen all provide excellent support.

Alright everybody, the marketing guys came up with a new bond algorithm to maximise profit: The list sais we need one chopper, plane, train and car scene each. That's Team A. Team B is responsible for bondgirl one and two, the mysterious bad guy, his badass henchman, a torture scene and some kind of computer hacking. Team C will build the villain base and blow it up. Desert would be nice, but snow is also fine. Any questions? - What about the story? - Hmm, lets see...nope, not on the list!

I would have to rank this one in the bottom tier of Bond movies simply on account of many plot holes, its strange daddy-issues take on Blofeld, and some so-so action scenes. But still, even lesser Bond I still enjoy. The pretitle sequence in Mexico City is one of the best of the series and maybe my favorite movie scene of 2015, singlehandedly boosting my score. An odd Bond film to be sure, Spectre is overly reliant on the established Bond formula, but executes it so flawlessly that you can't help but love it... until everything goes off the rails in the final 15 minutes, with a finale that's nonsensical even by Bond standards. Overall, Spectre does such a wonderful job evoking classic Bond, especially visually and stylistically, while wrapping up threads from modern Bond arcs, that it's well worth the ride.

The way he ended Skyfall, Mendes didn't really leave him self other choices than to dive head first, arms spread wide into a familiar sea of established 007 tropes. This actually works extremely well for a long stretch, but when it comes time to stick the landing he lands on this stomach, as Waltz's Big Bad is revealed to be little more than a contrived backstory, an obvious twist, and loafers.

I'm tired of Mendes his stale direction, tired of Craig's tired Bond (let alone his bs about Bond being misogynous), tired of everything basically that came after Casino Royale. Spectre feels more like a continuation of QoS, rather than Skyfall. The latter has a better story and Deakins also works wonders, enough to mask Mendes his incompetence to direct a solid Bond film. I remember his quote about taking inspiration from Nolan's TDK. I want classic Bond back, a Bond with charm, a new Bond.

Mediocre and lazy. The car chase is adequate. The first romance is cringe and the second is not much better. Why fly a chopper like maniac when your boss is hanging on for dear life? Why drive to Rome from London? How does Bond find a plane atop a snowy mountain peak? How do they drive down? Why do the baddies send Mute Hulk to kill Bond when they let him in the secret base anyway? The final Bond movie for Craig is careless.

W/ Skyfall Mendes made 1 of the best Bond films & w/ this, 1 of the worst. While the action -when it 2 infrequently occurs - is great, the rest is a dull travelogue w/ boring exposition. The biggest crime is its Dr. Evil-like villain who inexplicably does all he can 2 kill Bond, even though he says he is waiting 4 him & then refuses 2 kill him when he absolutely should. He's a genius except, u know, when he's self-evidently not. Safety nets also magically appear & bases explode from gunshots.

Despite the beautiful cinematography, the gripping action and a humorous Craig at his best, this Skyfall sequel tries too much to be like its predecessor. I like it but I think the Craig version of Bond is running its course. That's not the fault of Craig, it is just becoming familiar and predictable. It starts out on a high note, with the excellent Day of the Dead atmosphere, but it doesn't maintain that. Waltz does a good job but they try WAY too hard to make him seem like an evil evil bad guy, and I didn't feel like the action sequences always worked. Could have been trimmed a bit too... that may have helped it.

When Craig first took the role nine years earlier, there was talk about him being too old to play Bond, and in his fourth entry he's looking his age, his version of the character has also lost some of the appeal it had at the beginning of his tenure--he was supposed to be a brutal, visceral version of Bond. It's a decent movie, a middle of the road Bond entry, but Craig's wave has crested.

One of the most poorly written Bond movies ever. The plot is confusing and poorly explained. There is some good action, but the viewer is not engaged or included in much of the story. The love aspects was also not handled in a believable way. Many scenes were handled in a very unconvincing way. I also disliked the heavy handed story telling. Making Bond a rouge was ridiculous. Whilst I'm delighted that Daniel recovered from his stroke to gain almost all the movement back in his facial muscles, I will say that I found his inability to move his lips a trifle distracting. "Spectre" borrows the same awful screenplay style as "Skyfall" where things are explained. In very short. Poorly punctuated. Sentences so that. Idiots can understand. What is going. On. Spectre is certainly one of the least appealing installments of the series I've ever seen. Actually, its opening scene is terrific: great decor, morbid costumes, some baffling, inexplainable camera movements. The problem is that the plot is unintelligible: What are the stakes? What drives the enemy? Where does Bond get his costumes? Why do women react to him the way they do? And so on. The result is a loose series of action scenes that is barely kept together by a framing story.

After the delightful Skyfall, I went into Spectre with high hopes. The opening tracking shot was FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Then the lustre of the film dissipated. I found myself confused at the events leading up to the conflict with Spectre and well into its conclusion. Spectre's plot felt rushed and disjointed. A disappointing nail in the coffin of Craig's Bond career. Spectre misses most of its marks, with a confusing surveillance-themed plot, a baddy who's barely in it, and numerous scenes which feel like a re-hash of Bond's previous adventures (car chase, snow chase, train fight). Witty dialogue has been all but cut from the series, and the explosions and shootouts are more videogame-like than ever. If this is Bond's future, I don't want to see any more. Unfortunately Spectre is more reminiscent of QOS than CR/Skyfall, you can tell it's been hung drawn & q'tred by various writers. A great long-take opening scene (starting with a masked Bond was brilliant) gives way to a mediocre story: A half-hazard clue-hopping mystery centered on a lame villain (Bond's escapes from the chair and the building were way too easy for him) and a vague evil conspiracy (tying together the previous villains felt contrived). Quite a safe Bond, I agree with most in that the Mexico sequence was a strong way to kick things off. A large opening set-piece has started to feel comfortable at the top of a Bond film of late. From there, however, this was a fairly tension free affair, the heart monitor had a blip during the drill sequence only to be sedated shortly after with another dry & brazen action drill. They are starting to feel like they could be fast-forwarded through & the plot would still be on the same trajectory.

I'd place Spectre a close #3 in terms of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. It doesn't sniff Casino Royale, but there are certain things that Spectre does better than Skyfall, and vice-versa. Lea Seydoux is wonderful (if a little ineffectual), and I think the best compliment to be paid is, this feels the most "Bond" that Craig has ever felt. If this is indeed the end of Craig's run as 007, it ends on a strong note, as Spectre is both a good movie on its own, and a solid addition to the Bond universe.

The latest Bond films have been odd mirrors of the Christopher Nolan Batmanverse. Skyfall built on the successful ground of The Dark Knight by ruminating on upbringing, temperament, & occupation. But Spectre tries to tell a The Dark Knight Rises style retirement story. It could've been cool if the action, fights, or romance were fun. But nothing gets ever takes off, making the hokey & uneven ending even worse. It's a marginal recommendation, albeit with beautifully photographed locales.

Spectre is a solid conclusion to the Craig quartet, tying together loose ends from the previous installments, although being fairly contrived in the process. The 1st half of the flim is great, bringing Bond back to his quippy, fun stereotype; while the 2nd half retreads familiar modern territory, though not nearly as gripping. Seydoux surprises, while villainous Waltz and Scott disappoint. Technically (cinematography, score, direction) the film is great, but overall it's not ground-breaking.

I liked a lot about this film. The opening sequence is great, and the reveal of Waltz's character is great directing. The Craig-era films, especially the latter two, kind of move beyond Bond as a character to give him more nuance. He is a man who is nothing beyond the job, but is haunted by an emotional past (the empty apartment scene is a great example). This film builds up the idea of the pervasiveness of information technology, and then just sorta fizzles out. The last third just sorta ends.

isn't it about time us folk, adults all, came to see the Bond franchise for what it is - a big pile of bollocks?

Spectre pulls a lot of things together from the other Craig Bond films and puts them in a movie that brings things together in a pretty interesting way. Spectre is a good swansong for the Craig Bond films. It was nice to see him walk away with a female lead. It also shows that there is room for a sequel because Christoph Waltz, who in my opinion, is the strongest Bond villain in decades and wasn't killed off like most villains. My only complaint is they should have spent more time in Mexico.

You may be through with the past, but the past is not through with you. Whatever technology and sophistication you tell yourself you have, in the end there will be a dude drinking, fucking, and fighting. Having Craig be a Bond for the 21st century has apparently gone out the window. Here instead they celebrate his status as a relic (or spectre). With such a realistic worldview, you'd hope it would be better.

Tries and fails to have it both ways in maintaining the darker undercurrents and being a throwback to the stylistic bond of the 60s. What churns out is a rather antiseptic but entertaining enough movie. What little the series gains this time around in acquiring Waltz, it suffers a fatal blow in losing Roger Deakins.

Two great action scenes don't quite cut it when the rest is more or less shoddily written and even the good stunts are largely wasted by inept directing. Disappointing.

Makes Skyfall look ultra-creative in comparison. Good ideas done in a rote way, obviously suffers from some intense third act rewrites, and a apathetic return to what the team *thought* worked, in that classic Bond fuckup way.

There was two good jokes: the sofa scene and the first meeting with a cool car. The plot did not build anything nice out of it and action scenes did not impress me much. There was a short moment with Monica Bellucci who's getting old but still have the fibe on her.

It shoots itself in the foot by trying to be far too ambitious for its own good. In attempting to one-up the previous movies, they create "one villain to rule them all," which only served to place undue pressure on the rest of the film. It was a strange contrast with other parts of the movie which seemed content on being a superficial action flick. As a result of that dichotomy, Spectre lacks a clear identity. In one instance it's serious and somber in another it's silly and ridiculous.

Too convenient to work as a drama. Not Bond enough to be a Bond movie. In other words: The writing is remarkably bad and the movie's boring. Which makes it a weak, dull pseudo Bond drama with a couple of action scenes and an uninteresting pseudo 60s look. And the worst romance of all time. Christoph Waltz is great (and underfeatured) and the only thing not uncool about this movie. Good ending, though. Even though it totally betrays the whole tone of the movie.

On par with the other Bond films with Craig. It's a bit uneven at times, but has a fun mix of set pieces and spy plot and pushes the character in interesting, if not fully developed, directions.

It's a Bond film. There's absolutely nothing new here, and any progress made to modernise the franchise has taken a huge step backwards with this entry: The stupid gadgets are creeping back in, and things are getting sillier again. It looks like I'm doomed to live in a world where the Bond films (with the exception of Casino Royale) are not what I'd like them to be.

Stylish and as big a action as it wants to deliver, but Spectre (2015) was a surprisingly generic James Bond. So little personality here. I know Daniel Craig is the hard and serious James Bond, and I don't have a problems with that, but then you got to have some color in there.... somewhere! And there is none of that. The main villain was completely uninteresting. On a positive Dave Bautista looked badass! The movie is still good simply based on the spectacular action.

An unapologetic embrace of Bond as over the top action hero; the entire film is a meta commentary on gritty, realistic spy dramas, the ugly reality of the modern surveillance state, and how we're maybe better off with a man who's above all that. Familiar sequences such as a villain conference and the slow-moving deathtrap are rendered in surprisingly entertaining ways.

Dumb and seemed internally conflicted in what direction it wanted to head. Craig went full video game mode at stages which even for Bond is a stretch. Completely wasted Waltz in a plot that is complete nonsense.
