Spaceman

Replace the miserable husband in space with a screaming grouch in space and you'd get a pretty good comedy. The space spider is voiced by half-asleep Paul Dano and even has yellowed crooked human teeth, so it's halfway there already. Unfortunately, this is a certified serious movie about a woman suffering through her yoga sessions while her husband selfishly explores the cosmos or maybe it's just arachno-propaganda, either way it's a waste of time.

Space therapy spider likes Nutella. Czech Republic builds spaceship but forgets to put anyone on it except Adam Sandler. Couple go through a rocky patch, then are fine. We learn things have beginnings but also endings.

I'm just throwing this out there, giant space botflies are one of the most disgusting things I could possibly think of. Regular Earth botflies are already just henious in concept. Botflies are why flamethrowers were invented. This comment is not directly related to this movie at all. Botflies are proof God isn't real.

AD ASTRA but about a guy who neglects his role as husband rather than father. Strange to use long-distance space travel just to say: a man should make his woman the absolute centre and abandon all other dreams. Has this ideology arisen because women have demanded it or because men want to legitimize their cowardice and laziness in the face of their own dreams? In some ways an aesthetic improvement over Gray’s film, but all in the service of a trite conception of human relations that I reject.

A bit heartbreaking that this is just forgettably okay, largely probes the surface of an already well-trodden approach of loneliness of space as metaphor for expanse of ones emotional struggles, glacially paced and somewhat incurious despite its compositional grace, too much tell over show via Dano's Exposition Alien Spider. Sandler at his most muted ever is an exciting turn but pulling off a convincingly nuanced Czech accent in the quiet details of Jakob's resting murmur? Not as successful.

Spaceman is a tedious film that loses any sense of meaning as it meanders through mopey characters eventually confronting their emotional problems via the aid of a judgy alien spider. Renck & Day don't do any favours adapting Kalfař's novel, especially with the casting that seems to lessen the impact of the character's ethnic origins. Not Sandler's worst role, but it's a pretty lifeless performance. Mulligan's character is intolerable. The best aspect of the film is the score.

Undeniably intriguing, with an admirably slow, serious, and cerebral tone, as well as demonstrating some considerable visual acuity. But in grasping for Tarkovsky, its meager insights fall well short of the mark. It's just not written very well, full of sophomoric aphorisms about the meaning of it all, never as highly literary or convincingly spiritual, and reluctant to be as abstract as cinema's truly great cosmic explorations.

J'ai regardé ce film avec quelqu'un qui a détesté et aussi étrange que cela puisse paraître, c'est totalement compréhensible et je ne recommande pas ce film. En fait, le rythme est très lent, l’araignée en CGI est bizarre, les métaphores difficiles à cerner. Mais aussi étrange que cela puisse paraître à nouveau, j'ai chialé comme un bébé lorsque l’araignée n'était plus présente à l'écran. Adam Sandler fait de son mieux mais ce n'était pas le meilleur choix.

Shoot me...into space?

That spider got very preachy and judgemental incredibly quick, huh? Anyway, the script wasn't very good; some of the visuals were fine and I thought the spider itself was cute, but it's just quite generic.

I hated this and all the "skinny human" bullshit. The premise is space to Lenka and then Lenka to space and repeated for 108 minutes back and forth. All of that is dressed with melodramatic music. Adam Sandler was awesome in Uncut Gems, but for me the rest of his filmography is just meh. It's the first film of 2024 I have seen and a candidate for worst movie of the year already.

Very boring and the lady should stop complaining

Sandler went all the way and had a turn at a dramatic serious role. Kind of a shame he was playing against a spider from outer space. The real trouble with this film is that I can't bring myself to care about these people. It's pretty boring, visuals are nice at least. Total non-ending

I cried a lot.

I never read the book, but I'm sure compared to it it pales in comparison as most adaptations do. The movie was emotionally effective. I gasped in excitement a few times, cried a few times. A few moments hit real hard. There are plenty of issues, some kind of major, but if you are able to just accept it's a netflix movie and are content to just vibe with it on an emotional level it's a wonderful ride.

Richter's soundtrack may turn off some with how on the nose it is, but I think it does a lot of emotional heavy lifting, and makes Spaceman feel more substantial than it is. Because really, it's just a space metaphor about discovery (love, meaning, etc) that we've seen utilized tons before, performed gracefully by Sandler. I might not have given it a pass, mainly due to its pacing (or lack thereof), but its emotional/philosophical payoff got me, hitting a layer that's deeper than surface level.

Varies too much from the book. They gave it a happy ending and dumbed down the entire emotional journey Jakub takes.

its a very anxiety and peace inducing film. the soundtrack is lush and overall its a solaris esc drama. a well done film i might must say

Somewhat interesting at times. I got bored by the end. The ending was basically a disappointing non-ending.
