Originally I thought the movie was going to be pretty bad but I was surprised when it turned out to be an alright flick. An unusual idea for a film for sure but it does have some charm. Clint Eastwood is good and, in fact, there are no weak actors throughout the entire film. In the end it's nothing great but it's alright.

I saw it when i was 12 years old in the movie theatre and now I saw it again on Spanish television. Clint Eastwood's voice over was terrible and I don't know why he's called Frank in every movie but there were some funny moments I understood. Maybe there were even more, but didn't catch everything...

Suspension of disbelief is required, especially when some secrets are revealed as to the Russian satellites true nature, yet the cast is so much fun to watch, the film may not have needed a plot to be enjoyed.

It's kind of tricky to watch because it seems so farfetched that it's difficult to feel a sense of thrill for the action bits. I really like Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland, though, so watching them in this movie made it a lot more enjoyable. I also like all space mission stuff that I can find in movies, so that added a second star to my final rating. It's fun, but not that exciting.

Eastwood as a director is very hit-or-miss. This one is, regrettably, a miss. It’s a generic astronaut film, EXCEPT they’re old. In each scene we see the old guys try to do typical astronaut stuff, and someone goes “they can’t do this, they’re too old” and then Clint Eastwood goes “just watch us” and then they successfully do the thing and everyone’s like “wow, I guess being old doesn’t make you a complete invalid”. Maybe I’m too young to appreciate such nuanced writing.

It wasn't a terrible movie, but it wasn't a great movie either. The characters are fun and there are plenty of amusing moments, but the whole premise is just a little shaky. I think what hurts it is the fact that the movie seems so low stakes for the majority of the time, but then throws a twist that ups the stakes with very little of the movie left.

There's nothing wrong with it, and it's just some harmless fun, but it's not exactly a high-quality film. It's nice to see these veteran actors together and in a nice fun film, but it plays a lot to cliche and there's nothing in this that will make you think that this will go down as a memorable film for any of these cowboys.

Clint is a skillful historian and presents a powerful and mellow, if flawed, American chronicle of men conquering space -- despite their many suspects about technology, faith and place in history. It took 40 years for these dudes to have another chance to finally get to space -- and when they do, is to solve a big issue regarding a Russian satellite (constructed after KGB stole Clint's project) that's drifting with warheads aimed at America. Last shot is pure history-is-how-we-remember material.

First half is full of scenes of the 'Ol' Timers' doing their thing how it was done years before all this new technology, and showing the highly qualified NASA 'youngsters' how it's done proper. Second half is a lame space event which is just one giant cliche. Very, very bland.

While the plot is overly cliched, the suberb acting by the stars (especially the tense interactions between Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones) and the spectacular special effects make this a movie worth seeing.

A drama about four burnt out astronauts who have a second chance to achieve their dream of entering space. Only after a soviet satellite built by the US government begins to fall out of orbit creating a potential international incident of catastrophic proportions. This film is reminiscent of Rocky Balboa, an instant classic drama about age, determination, and the need to continue to be something.

Is anybody else tired of death being treated as some great opportunity? Eastwood is so obviously afraid of his own mortality that he treats a particularly morbid event in the film like the end of an episode of "Sesame Street."
