feel good movie with a great soundtrack. what makes this perfectly paced movie lose points is rushed ending. anyway, strongly recommended for fans of this kind.

First half is great, but the second half equally bad. Starts off as a kind of feel-good-movie, and it is far better than Akin's latest seemingly message loaded crap. But the pace and the direction in the second half is takes confusing turns far too often. Not much soul music too.

Could have been a solid feel good movie but too many excessive characters, unnecessary sub-plots and a rushed ending drag it down. Felt an hour longer than it actually was, which is probably never a good sign.

Again a great work by Fatih Akin! The performances are awesome if however over the top sometimes but that gives extra spice to Akin's stories. Really really funny! Absolutely recommendable!

Fatih Akin is one of the promising german director's. His former movies are always close to real life. He's telling about the live of german streets, the problematic of different cultures and of course about friendchips. In his new film he's telling the story of a young greek restaurant chef, who have to face a lot of unexptectable problems. Again, he did a great job, the actors are excellent and the music fits perfectly into the general view. Highly recommendable, and for Akin fans a must see.

Some nice ideas but it all feels a bit sloppily thrown together. Would have preferred more focus on the food, staff and running of the restaurant, and less on partying, sex, cash, crime and so on. We don't get the impression that Fatih Akin really cares much about gastronomy or the dining experience. On top of that, too many silly plot devices, unwanted subplots, clichéd characters and ideas. Rather a missed opportunity, which could have been a cool cult film in a foodie director's hands.

This movie is overrated. Most jokes are lame and the characters are boring. There was only one situation near the end (the auction) that I found funny, though not very original. The plot is totally unconvincing. Here's one example: at some point, one of the characters stops a police car, says "You need to arrest me", and then enters the police car without the policemen saying or doing anything.

Akin dialed down the seriousness after Head On and Edge of Heaven to deliver this heartfelt, unpretentious comedy that engages with one of his favourite themes--the struggles of second generation ethnic minorities in Germany--in a more lighthearted fashion. The lack of ambition is almost offputting, but this tale of an underdog trying to make it in the food business hits most of the right notes, and its loose approach to comedy papers over the cracks of convention that inevitably appear.

You can feel a lot of soul of this movie, but at the same time that's not the point of the movie. The point is in different side stories that connect to the main story, but I think they could be something different. What? I don't know, maybe show us a bit more of that >soul< heart that we were promised...

Fatih Akin is making the best movies in Germany today. And Soul Kitchen proves he is as adept at comedy as drama. It's silly, unbelievable and fun from beginning to end.

I had been meaning to see a Fatih Akin for over a decade, but now that I moved to Germany, it's mandatory. What fascinates me about this film is that the script is so tightly structured and holds so well in set ups and payoffs, while the pacing and visuals just have perfect chaotic manic fun energy. This was very stressful for me, as troubles with health insurance and taxes and gentrification always are. Not to mention heartbreaking long distance relationships.

This was lighter than I expected from Akin based on his other films, but I thought it was quite entertaining. It's always interesting to see stories about different cultures within Germany. Groovy soundtrack and not too long.

This movie just proves how fascinating and wildly growing the talents of the talisman Fatih Akin is. An impeccable cast, a super-solid acting and suitable music coupled with awesome camera work when needed and add the comedy fillings here and there. Take a bow, Mr. Akin.

An independent comedy of the society-is-in-a-good-mood type. Fun to watch, but not much more than that.

Oh give me a break, if this were an American production, the friends down at Rotten Tomatoes would have piled up on it like *ad lib folksy Southern imagery*. But because it's GERMAN, about dudes of GREEK descent trying to run a RESTAURANT, well! That's it I'm done.
