Sonic the Hedgehog 2

I've seen worse things than the wedding sequence, but I haven't in a movie where the main character is a cartoon hedgehog and the runtime is two hours plus. I'm sorry, did you say a movie where the main character is a cartoon hedgehog and it's over two hours?

The cinematic equivalent of ripping the Sonic 1 cart out of the Genesis and never touching it again. Good stupid sequel, I wish I cared about Sonic wait what am I saying good lord no never mind everything is as it should be. Could not stop vomiting after that Sonichu post-credit scene, good lord, you've been warned.

The first Sonic flick was surprisingly fun and likeable, but this one is a significant downgrade. The writing and humour are overall way worse, they double down on that weird Ga’Hoole nonsense from the first one, and the story is basically a laundry list of fanservice nonsense that forgets about Sonic’s super speed at bizarre moments. Carrey is still game for whatever bullshit, and Idris is a fun addition, but it’s a pretty poor sequel. Also do Chaos not Shadow for the third one smh

Mostly a retread of the first Sonic movie but still enjoyable enough.

There's a dance sequence in which they play Uptown Funk; need i say more.

Actually kind of good. It’s another “let’s get the bad guy before he takes over the world” movie, but it is really fun and well directed and acted. Fans of the games will probably like it the most, seeing as the filmmakers are actually trying to make something fresh yet faithful to the character. I think it feels more like a Sonic movie than the first one. Carrey is as gleefully over the top as ever too. I didn’t care much for then human characters or the generic family dialogue. Still good fun.

I got tons of quasi-ironic love for Sonic owing to my friends and I being embarrassingly into Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes on GameCube in the day. So I’d be lying if I said it didn’t tickle my nostalgia bone to see all the Sonic characters and iconography on display here. That said, the caliber of writing and filmmaking is not that high. As others here said, you could easily clear away the Siberian dancing, wedding and federal agents subplots for a smoother story/runtime.

I found the 1st film middling, but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was a surprisingly fun ride. The jokes are silly but they worked for me. I enjoyed ever minute Carrey was onscreen, while Marsden & Sumpter provide a parental energy to counter-balance the craziness. Schwartz & Elba are good, but it's O'Shaughnessey's experience as a voice-actress that really brings their performances together. The textures for the CGI look great. The Siberian dance-off was unnecessary. The credits were a nice touch.

There are so many jokes that don't work, especially with Robotnik (Jim is fine in the role though), so I should hate these movies... but I really don't. I care so much about Sonic/Tails/Knuckles. I know some of that is nostalgia for the Genesis era Sonic, but I was so happy that they formed their tribe. I do think they are written well so it's not just nostalgia. The action is exciting and there are jokes that legitimately work ("why am I angry at the enemy's ball?"). Thoroughly entertaining.

Bigger with more solid action sequences than the first, and Tails & Knuckles are great additions. The jokes though, they just don't land like they should. My kids only laughed 2 or 3 times and this should have loads of laughs for that age group. Carrey is having fun, but I'm not totally sold on this version of Eggman with uninspired quips. Probably about 15 minutes too long also. The dance sequence at the Siberian bar was totally unnecessary. The final act is awesome though, that part delivered.

I don't think there's a measurable step forward here anywhere, BUT, there also isn't an obvious step backwards. The additions of Tails and Knuckles are fine, Carrey is once again brilliant, though I don't think I laughed quite as much in this one as I did in 2020. But you know, I'm still on-board for Sonic 3 - hopefully the rumors of Carrey leaving acting don't preclude him from doing this once more - and I do have to shout-out the incredible soundtrack and great use of those songs. See it!

A little saggy around the edges but retains much, if not quite all, of its predecessors likability. Carrey is having a good time and its flashy moments are suitably punchy and CGI heavy. The kids had a great time with it, so job done in that respect. Some nice game references thrown in too.

The follow-up to the surprisingly decent Sonic is this surprisingly not-shit sequel. Sticking to the formula of the first does mean it’s much of a muchness for the most part, but that’s no bad thing. Both Carrey and the gags seems toned down half-a-notch and the whole ‘family’ angle does get a bit tiresome by the end, but it continues to pay homage to the games well (although Knuckles is a much more developed character than Tails) and the funky soundtrack helps things along.

Funny for kids, love the soundtrack.

This really is devastating. I loved playing as Sonic, Two-Tails and Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik was terrifying. This film makes all the characters seem like modern day twat bags.

I liked a little more than the original. Most of it was ho-hum, but the wedding scene was fantastic and there few good jokes here and there. I enjoy the fact that both movies reunited Adam Pally and Ben Schwartz, the greatest late night talk show hosts in history.

There was a lot of WAIT IT’S A BIGGER ROBOT happening . Nice CGI but I was bored along the way. I guess it is for kids so I am being more generous

While I don't exactly understand how the first one made enough money to warrant a second, Sonic was never really ripe for a movie adaptation in the first place, so anything adapted to screen was basically just a handful of characters to draw in the masses, and the story was made up. This sequel is about on par with the first, my son liked it, but I was pretty uninterested and unimpressed.

Something about this one did not click for me. Shame I really quite enjoyed the first.

“Sonic The Hedgehog 2” is an improvement over the first film, with some visually dazzling and fun scenes, endearing vocal performances, and heartwarming friendships between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. However, it suffers from frequent humor that does not land, an inconsistent tone, and thoughtless writing that slows down the film’s momentum.

I thought this was a clear step down from the first film. Adding new CGI-characters to the mix and increasing action set pieces took away much of the charm. Marsden & co. have smaller roles, while Carrey is the only human character given more - and while I liked him, perhaps too much - screen time. It's all very scattered and there was no need for 2 hrs runtime. I really hope they tone it down for the third one.

Not as good as the first one but passable.

There is plenty of fat and predictableness, but it is bigger, better, and more refined than the original.

This is the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie where somebody does the floss dance. But possibly the first kids movie I've seen where somebody references "the guy who waxed my... at the spa".

Better in some ways than the first but a bit more disjointed so as a whole is slightly lesser. Tails is as likeably sappy as in the games and cartoons, but I couldn't help but listen to Elba's Knuckles and think they were writing him as Bautista's Drax from MCU and would have loved to hear DB's version of the Echidna. I still find these movies fun despite their flaws and as Sonic 3 seems to have been greenlit I'll look forward to that too!

I had a lot more fun with Sonic 2 than I had with the first one. Better comedy, better action. Plus you had more of the characters from the Sonic universe. Simply more ambitious.

I liked this a lot more than the original movie. I think this movie just has a better story overall. Where the first one was sort of a directionless road trip story, this one has a story built on lore, and incorporates a lot of things the game fans love about the series as well, while still feeling fresh. I probably would have cut the wedding side plot, but at least that allowed for the introduction to something that will link to the next movie.

This was very good. So Tails & Knuckles get introduced into this. Main storyline is exactly like Sonic 3 the Video game. Egg man tricks Knuckles into making him believe that Sonic is the bad guy to retrieve the Master Emerald. Sonic & Tails are with humans. Egg man gets the Master Emerald, starts destroying Green Hill. After a bit they fight Sonic get the Master Emerald which contain 7 Chaos Emeralds, becomes Super Sonic & beats Egg Man. Metal Sonic is shown at the End credits.

Bro movie for bros. There are two bros vs two bros and then the one bro realizes the other bro don't care about him at all, you dig me bro? So the others form a trio of super bros to take down the super douchey bro. Also there's some dumb wedding subplot which could have been dumped. Bro cinema at it's finest.

For what it's worth the movie makes better use of its setpieces and Carrey's material works a lot better, But like its prequel, it's so mundane that I find it boring. I guess if you're really attached to the concept of Sonic this works fine, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes at its attempts at humor and drama, especially the weird attempts at being referential or when any of the human characters get involved.

At least there's less humans this time, but I'd still like more Jim Carrey and less pop culture refs. Where's that iconic Sonic soundtrack? Weird to make a movie about him without the best part. That ending tease doesn't bode well for the third movie, if it ever gets made, I just don't care at all for that teased character.

(Rewatch: Carrey gets better) I like the addition of Tails and Knuckles. Carrey does a fine job playing a comic villain. Not much for Marsden and Sumpter to do this time around. Shallow family themes. The plot had too much filler (Siberian dance, all the wedding and govt agency stuff) and I'm not sure the sheriff and the sycophant were necessary to the plot. Fav scene: Marsden (who is quite fit himself) not measuring up to the groom's bros in volleyball or doing headstand push ups.

Imagine if Sony took over and made this film hahaha. Luckily, Universal holds the rights. This is sooo enjoyable!

As far as live-action animated franchises go, this one’s cream of the crop. Which is somewhat damning with faint praise. It’s made for kids but it listens to the fans. For every cliche and predictable one-liner it’s got enough heart for a fully enjoyable experience.

A vast improvement as it focuses much more on the Sonic lore than the previous film did. Adding in Knuckles and Tails was a brilliant touch and Jim Carrey is once again the highlight of the film. It was much darker in tone it seemed and the action sequences were beyond brilliant. After the mid credits scene this franchise just became mind blowingly epic on all scales. This cannot be the end. Wow.

By embracing the complete silliness of its premise and going almost totally bonkers, it improves upon the first one, that feels almost insecure by comparison.

God, I love this movie. Bring on 3.

Sonic's got your best DVD's, can you keep Up?

With the sequel it feels like they could do much more. The CGI game characters get more of the spotlight than the Human characters, the jokes land better and there’s just much more going on here. With Tails and Knuckles, it adds more character dynamic and banter. Robotnik also gets to shine more too, having more gadgets and locations to juggle with. The weakest parts of the movie are with the lesser Human characters, but the scenes are still passable. Fans will be most happy with this.
