Son of Godzilla

In a land of sand and heat, an unusual creature is born through unconvential ways. Soon it becomes clear the world is full of scared people than don't understand him and dangerous enemies that would see him dead. Luckily his father is an unstoppable and mythical force that makes all living things who earned his wrath crap their pants in fear. Hmm.. I think they should've removed the 'zilla' part from the title.

Godzilla is a hilariously neglectful father.

Whew. A lot of laughs in this one, but I think a few might have been unintentional. Godzilla's parenting skills are put to the test as he keeps trying to get the baby out of trouble. Then we've got big mantises and spiders coming out of the rocks, and the pseudo-scientific humans being hunted. The saving grace is the pretty snow-filled ending. Definitely targeted to kids and their patient parents.

The silliest and most juvenile of the '60s Godzilla movies. This is occasionally amusing (especially in son Minya's resemblance to ET) but has some of the weakest special effects of the series.

Godzilla with a mentally challenged baby

As my friend pointed it out to me during the film : force of nature that is Godzilla, has a cowardly, weak, dolt - mentally slow as well as physically shit "offspring" . Is this how adults who grew up in the ruthless imperial Japanese culture view their offspring : the baby boomer generation. God had nothing to do with Minilla - he is garbage kaiju as far as I am concerned.

The monsters on this island sure love beating up children for no reason.

The franchise so far has been corny sci-fi fare at worst, but this one is just hideously stupid. I guess it's for kids but I feel like kids would be scarred for life watching this.

With this the series completely entered the realm of comical family friendly movies, but as light entertainment it still amuses. Minilla looks horrible, but his interactions with daddy give the movie some of the best moments. The biggest letdown here are the battles. Godzilla (and son) fight some huge mantises and a giant spider, while amusing it does feels like watching Tyson fight a featherweight amateur. The final image of son and dad covered in snow is surprisingly touching.

Baby Godzilla is adorable. Also yey giant spider fight! This movie is goofy but endearing enough.

The baby Godzilla is an anchor weighing this film down. Everything is fun except the damn kid. More giant bugs? Great. Quasi-sciency technobabble scientist-people? Awesome. A mini-Godzilla whose only purpose is to have something for Godzilla to save or take up screen time training? No thank you.

Silly and good for a few laughs.

Godzilla looks like crap, everything about minilla is annoying especially the music that plays for him. However the giant bugs are cool and ugly godzilla still has some fine showdowns every time they clash. The human element was tolerable and sets up a kaiju fight in a blizzard! It has a subtle, fun buildup of anticipation for each destructive monster moment that keeps it moving.

I like this one least. It'd get a score of zero, but it has Godzilla, who RULES!

Mostly silly with a couple memorable bits.

men in rubber lizard suits doing slapstick comedy doesn't sound like it would work, but it does. terribly written dialog with bad acting to boot.
