Sometimes I Think About Dying

Ridley is great in a subdued performance. Lambert's still shots fit thematically and don't come across as more faux-"auteur" shit because it mirrors Fran's life and the office job. The juxtaposition between the drabness and the picturesque presentation (specifically the music) worked. Can't say I love this because it was hard to connect, though maybe that's on me more than the movie since Fran is hard to connect with, but I respect it. I could see me liking this more as time goes on.

While it may not be a thrilling ride, “Sometimes I Think About Dying” is a poignant exploration of loneliness and taking chances. Daisy Ridley’s performance is solid, and the chemistry between her and Dave Merheje is sweet and authentic. The score adds to the film’s fairytale-like quality, but the slower pacing at the beginning and the lack of exploration into Fran's strange fantasies prevent it from being a higher rating.

Strong performance by Ridley as a character who has trouble letting anybody into her life (and that includes the audience).

This is a very arty, quirky watch. I can sort of see how some may feel its poignant, though I'm not sure I feel I really 'got it' enough to be worth a higher rate. It has some scenes which appear like a sort of a daydream recreation of what the protagonist is thinking but most of the film felt directionless and a bit voyeuristic almost. There are some nice landscape shots, some good cinematography but it certainly isn't a film that's very tense or gripping, if that's what your expecting.

As someone who really, legitimately prefers my own company to the company of most people, I understand this character VERY well. The visions of being dead (not something I share) are not suicidal thoughts. The problem with preferring not to interact with people is that you can get locked so far into the shell that it's very difficult to come out even if you think you want to.
