Soft & Quiet

An exercise in depriving the audience of anyone to latch onto and root for by grounding the film 100% in the POV of these detestable main characters, proving once again that likability isn't mandatory. The film makes you crave an eventually catharsis that it has no interest in delivering. Because of this, the ending nearly feels like a bit of a letdown at first, but in truth, the lack of immediate comeuppance for these characters says a lot about the state of our world in and of itself.

Realism in a horror movie is so one-in-a-million, I want to forgive this movie for whatever measly flaws it does have. And it does stretch a little bit thin here and there, but by and large it's exquisitely natural and immersive. And it fails the reverse Bechdel!

A terrifying film that feels very current. These people exist...

Having only read the synopsis, Soft & Quiet's plot surprised me (a rarity) in a less than palatable way. Estes' Emily immediately comes across as a bitch, but a swastika pie later I thought the film might be a comedy. It isn't! Therein lies the problem; The subject matter & tone don't work well together. The cast does well, but the film hinges on a contrived plot point in the 2nd act & falls apart for the 3rd act. Hypocrisy, idiocy & ineptness seem to be the modus operandi with no pushback.

An utter gimmick through and through. A darkly comic satire that either doesn't know what it is or fails completely to execute it's vision.

How you can make that much of a compelling premise this boring is beyond me

Going in to this blind is a wild experience. Points for the absolute cojones it takes to bring this thing to life, though Araújo’s reach exceeds her grasp in a few crucial areas; the cast give it their best effort and should be applauded for it, but I often had the feeling that they were all about to burst out laughing. Luccardi in particular just can’t convince in the second half, and the whole premise kind of crumbles around her

If you go in without knowing anything about the movie, the first 15 mins will hit you hard. After that you sort of know where things are going, but it is still shocking to see

Soft & Quiet provides insight into the frustrating mess that arose after a group of white women banded together to spread racist and sexist hate speech. A successful indie horror that can descend into human nature in an environment of anger-filled chaos. The last 20 minutes could have been written better, but still one of the creative films of the year.
