The transphobic ending makes me like this a hell of a lot less than I used to, but there are still some wildly hilarious scenes here and there.

I have a bit of a soft spot for soap operas and I enjoyed the detail they put into 'The Sun Also Sets' - the buff love interest (Bolt), bringing a decapitated character back to life, misreading lines during a live show, all of it. And the entire cast was having a ball, which adds to the fun. So I was pretty on board unapologetic campiness of whole thing... right up until the final minutes, which revealed a transphobic twist so awful that it made me feel like I'd wasted two hours of my life.

The script just isn't witty enough. If every scene was as funny as the teleprompter scene, this would be a great comedy. Minus 15 points for horrific transphobia. Plus 5 points for surprisingly wild production design that almost becomes a distraction but at least keeps things visually interesting.

Pretty generic comedy (read: soap opera parody) that isnt very clever or inspiring at all. Maybe that's the point?

The main actress wasn't really convincing and seemed to badly act even when supposed to not be acting, but otherwise so over the top it has its moments

This was really funny. It's a good spoof on Soaps whilst also becoming one. RDJ in glasses - you may as well just end me right here. Sally Field also KILLED it in this role.

Given the talent involved, Soapdish is a disappointingly lacklustre affair that relies too heavily on Field screeching rather letting its funny cast be funny. The concept isn't terrible, but the lack of humour makes the film forgettable at best.

Zany and unfunny. Nothing to connect to.

Apart from the transphobic ending, this makes for an enjoyable movie. Fast paced and mostly funny, with a cast (Downey Jnr. and Kline are particularly good) that really sells the melodrama of the soap opera.

Epic performances from Sally and Cathy. Blissfully campy.

A comedic romp that snowballs from the very beginning. A very good spoof of the soap opera drama and how real life can sometimes be more dramatic than fiction. It contains great performaces by the ever consistant Sally Field, Kevin Kline, and Whoopi Goldberg. It is a delight to enjoy with its various twists and turns.

Meh. Painfully average and dull. Whoopi and Downey Jr. are good.

Some genuinely funny moments as film actors spoof the genre that gave many of them a start.

How do you define awful? I prefer to use the standard of comedies based on soap operas.

Funny but corny. See it for the cast, especially Whoopi.
