There's a real otherworldliness to early Disney fairytale kitsch that isn't really recognized anymore, all the graceful limbs, the lulling female choir, the mysterious and beautiful forest backdrops. They are still trying to find their footing with this one though, Snow White is a pretty but moronic bore, the dwarfs are dull, unfunny and overused. As usual with Disney, its witch villain saves the day, the hag's face brimming with so much life and bite you never want her to leave the screen.

Credit to Walt for creating the first American feature length animated film (nobody ever mentions the non-American ones that came before) but I can't really enjoy this as anything more than an interesting piece of cinema history. The animation is still great but it's a 10-minute fairytale padded out to feature-length, with all the good parts taken out. And the songs just sound painful to my uncultured modern ears - Snow's voice especially is like an evil queen's fingernails on a blackboard.

I really could not get over how condescending Snow White was to the Dwarfs lifestyle. I would not be nearly as accepting to some punk kid walking in to my house and treating me like a child. I don't have to wash my hands if I don't want to.

What kind of a grumpy could hate this movie? Did they sleepy through the fun? Any dopey can tell you that this was the first Disney feature, and that's nothing to sneezy at. So don't be bashful, give it a try! You'll be happy you did. It's just what the doc' ordered.

Is it dated? Of course, it was made in 1937, it's dated in every way. It's still a classic in every way, and impossible not to appreciate if you view it in the right context and frame of mind. The formula was definitely improved upon with things like Pinocchio and most of the Disney Renaissance, but that shouldn't matter here; let's face it, the actual filmmaking still holds up 80 years later. That's amazing.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves marked one of the most pioneering and monumental moments in the history of animation. Disney's beloved first feature film changed the way families watch films together. And remarkably this not only set the standard for some time but it still holds up incredibly well and is still thoroughly enjoyable. The animation and story telling is profound and the characters remain just as lovable more than 75 years on. It's astounding how old but great this film still is.

(2014-15 Disneython #1:) Both incredibly aged but, in equally important ways, timeless. Snow White herself, the Prince, and the Queen are all shallow (and, in Snow White's case, wholly reactive) characters, but they also set in stone archetypes still being explored today. The dwarfs are great, fun, and full of personality. The songs are largely dreamy, old-timey melodic and not that memorable (save Hi-ho), but the animation is still gorgeous, and astonishingly ahead of its time by '37 standards.

There's not a whole lot to the story here, and the film does hit a bit of a lull around the mid-point, but otherwise this is a film full of all sorts of extraordinary scenes, whether they be sickly cute and innocent or frightening fuel for nightmares, helped by the beautiful animation and appropriately overbearing score. This film is so easy for a serial killer in the making like me to love.

A well told classic fairytale and it's beautifully animated. It's great for what it is, but is completely lacking in substance of any sort. That might seem like an unfair complaint, but plenty of modern kids movies find a way to insert something of value beyond being pretty and fun.

I watched this again last week, and Grumpy came off as such a closet case. First he's going on about "Who needs women?" then when all the others are washing up for dinner, he goes "I'd like to see somebody make ME wash up... (hint hint)" but in the end, he follows what all the other dwarves are doing. Just let yourself out, Grumpy. I'm sure the other dwarves will understand.

You know for Disney's first animated full-length movie, it could be worse. The film starts great, but the initial pacing slows to a crawl upon meeting the dwarfs. There's a lot of repeated jokes and unnecessary slapstick ft. the dwarfs that should have been shortened, and it leaves Snow White and infamously the prince (who cares what's his name) underdeveloped. At least they cut the 4-minute long soup-eating scene.

You can't deny the value of this movie from a historical standpoint. This movie started it off for Disney. The music is incredible if a little dated. The story is simple to follow without too much fluff to distract from getting from start to finish. The voice acting is excellent. There is some horrific scenes in the movie but they are nothing that most kids wouldn't be able to take. The comedy bits throughout the film hold up really well. I found myself chuckling a lot. Instantly iconic, revolutionary film holds up superbly, furnishing its admittedly simple story with some brilliantly creative ideas - especially the terrifying forest Snow White stumbles through on her way to the cottage. While our heroine might best be described as a "drip", the supporting characters (dwarfs and animals alike) are richly detailed and endearing characters, with the evil Queen a template for all future Disney villains. A remarkable achievement and far from a stuffy museum piece!

With charming characters and animation, an iconic villain and a delightful heroine, it's better than Cinderella and definitely better than Sleeping Beauty- and a lot of that boils down to the fact that it relies much more on themes of friendship and kindness than forced romances. The Seven Dwarfs are fun, the music is enjoyable, the Evil Queen's fate is excellent. It definitely still has flaws, many of which show its age, but it's one of the best of its era and remains highly watchable.

Animated theatricality in its pure form; this Disney classic might feel disappointing to some because its dramatic effect was lost in modern films and its relevance has been replaced. While watching this film you will feel the over-exaggeration of expressions and movements in the characters to be a bit obnoxious unless you see it from the eyes of a theatre-goer. This film was the start of an era while also pitching a little of what the future will or could bring in the animation world.

The original Disney princess tale is a charming classic. The first feature length animated film is a piece of cinematic history. Next to "Mickey Mouse"TM this film help build the juggernaut media conglomerate that is Disney. However aside from the fantastic animation and a few good tunes, the film's story is thin by today's standards. Many accusations can and have been levelled at Disney films, some with good reason, but there is just no getting around the superb artistry on display during their classic period when they set ridiculously high standards for animation features and seemed completely invincible. Snow White is painstakingly crafted, with a wonderful use of colour and shadow, and it excels as a piece of storytelling, balancing light and dark even if it isn't as horrific as the original tale on which it was based.

Unlike the formulaic box-office grabs that corporate Disney makes today, Snow White genuinely feels like a Labour of Love. Every single frame is packed with so much passion and warmth and charm and attention to detail it's easy to imagine this being a project that every single employee poured their hearts and souls into.
