The '41 musical version have the sweet voice of Jeanette MacDonald, and the only chance to see her up-against her real life husband Gene Raymond, which is a special attraction in itself. A lot of this is Brian Aherne & Ian Hunter in old man's make-up babbling on about their grudging hearts. Would have felt more natural has they actually used older actors for those important roles, but neither do shame on their reputations with their steady performances. Doesn't hurt that this is in Technicolor.
