Cute film. Stumbles a bit here and there, but Farrell is always there to get it back on track. The mystery is good enough as a hook and the rapid fire dialogue has pretty good hit rate.

Smart Blonde (1937) is the first of nine Torchy Blane movies made between 1937-1939, most starring Barton MacLane & Glenda Farrell as the hard cop/tough reporter couple always arguing their way through cases. Here a murder, and it's a enjoyable hour worth of comedy, action and mystery, the way they made them back in the 30s. Perhaps nothing out of the ordinary, but Farrell found a damn good role for herself with this series and makes sure the pace is kept up.

A fun first entry in this popular low-budget 1930s series. Go in with low expectations, and you'll enjoy it.
