I'm a fan of the Star Wars prequels, but even by my standards Slumberland's excessive use of CGI environments seemed a step too far. The acting is fine, with Momoa hamming it up while the script leans towards melodrama. The problem is the plot has too many familiar elements with a theme has been done before, in film that offers nothing new or better either narratively or aesthetically. The blaring, intrusive score doesn't help either. An unrelenting foray into mediocrity.

Narratively and conceptually a complete mess. Slumberland grasps at genuinely complexity but gets nowhere near it. That said, there’s stuff here to like, and enough to keep most of the family engaged. Clearly flawed, but not without merit.

This film would have been a lot better if they had decided what audience they were after before they made it!. If it was for the family, then the opaque & somewhat adult themed storyline, endless CGI and nightmare visions were not appropriate, and if it was for an adult audience, then the ridiculous screaming and childish one liners seemed inapproriate. There were some nice parts, especially the non CGI elements and the early scenes with KC, but as soon as it falls back on CGI it becomes a mess

This was a pleasant surprise! Visually spectacular. Great to watch with the whole family.

A girl who has lost her father and a man who has lost himself are gradually re-enchanted, making possible their mutual adoption. Unfairly maligned fantasy adventure, which might be thought of as INCEPTION meets THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO, but featuring an eleven-year-old female protagonist and aimed at an audience of about that age. The dream stuff and the themes about childhood and parenting are nicely worked out, and the style and humour have a slight Wes Anderson quality about them.

This is fun. The characters are hilarious and it has a lovely feel. Jason Momoa is a hoot!

Momoa is clearly having a blast here as he gets to play a dream world outlaw with no restraints. Marlow Barkley steals the show as Nemo, a girl looking to find her way after losing her father. It is visually stunning and has some heavy handed themes that definitely keep you engaged with what the film has to offer. It is fun when it needs to be and also deep and impactful when it calls for it. A solid movie.
