Sliver

Deals with surveillance in a not quite interesting enough way. What I mainly remember is the glorious butts. Man butts. Woman butts. I think I was still trying to figure butts out as a young man and this movie had an assortment. Wait, is this a review or a confessional?

I saw this recently. Wow. What a piece of garbage. The highlight was the UB40 song.

A nonsensical erotic thriller. Some of the worst dialogue (trying to determine if "maybe you two use the same spermicide" or "I've been getting a plastic yeast infection"). But, listen, there were too many Baldwins in the 90s. We only needed one. And that feels like a stretch.

Right in the middle of that lets-see-Sharon-Stone-naked-again phase in the early 90s, Sliver is a complete bore. This so-called psycho-sexual thriller has very little thrills but it does have a lot of William Baldwin doing his best impression of an actor. This is bad.

A lame excuse for Sharon Stone to get naked. Again.

This movie is FUCKING awful.

Even in the unrated version the only thing you get a good look at is William Baldwin's hairy buttocks...Sharon Stone, you should be ashamed of your self. The film had a very anti climatic twist ending and many illogical moments.

This is the only film I ever paid for and walked out in the middle.

I think the movie title is pronounced 'Saliva'.

There is something uniquely and fascinatingly trashy about trash movies from the 90s. Pre-90s and post-90s trash just isn't trashy in the same special way. I can't put my finger on it (beyond just pointing my finger at Eszterhas and calling it a day). Honestly I'd be able to overlook that if not for the fact that Sharon Stone's nipples barely have ten seconds of screen time in the entire film; what bullshit from a nominally "erotic" thriller. I've seen PG-13 movies with better nudity.

Stone plays Carly, a sexually repressed divorcee who moves into a luxury high-rise and starts to sniff out a murder mystery when she discovers that the previous tenant of her apartment was killed. Her chatty neighbor, the druggie Vida (Polly Walker), has some information but not enough, so Carly sets off Scooby Doo-style to see what she can uncover.

Someone paid Sharon Stone a lot of money to get naked again hence this movie.

Somewhat pathetic that an actress as talented as Stone stooped to this cheap thrill after the masterful Basic Instinct. The Baldwin guy is talentless and the movie was sold on the fact that Stone appeared nude again.

It is a movie which the strong point are the scenes of sex, when Sharon Stone was hot. And nothing more.

Well, not every movie adapted from an Ira Levin book can be great.
