As a result of his injury he can no longer work, and he falls into a reclusive depression. Skyscraper (1928) is one of those rare William Boyd silents which received an Oscar nomination for it's writing. Why it did, I got no idea. I guess internal favors/Hollywood politics? I mean, it's a fun movie in that potboiler type way, with Boyd and Alan Hale having good chemistry as a duo. But this is no touching story or genius comedy. A rather usual funny movie made at the time.
