Pure escapism. I loved the silent adaptation L'Atlantide (1921). The 1932 Georg Wilhelm Pabst multi-language versions where a mixed bag, being early talkies. This 1949 adaptation falls somewhere in between. A glamorous B-adventure, lacking that extra action and splendor of a epic one, but keeping the allure. This type of fantasy film is not for everyone, but I felt they did a good job with it.
