Starts off great but gradually the tone of the film shifts from a more gritty western to made for Hollywood generic pap. Really disappointing because it did start strong. The ensemble cast is well chosen and there's not a single bad cast member ensuring that no one person drags the movie down. It's not a bad movie, even towards the end, but I can't call it a great one either.

Silverado is fun and well paced, with strong dialogue and action throughout and some engaging performances from the ensemble cast. It's too fanciful though; a little more blood, grit and tragedy would likely have gone a long way in establishing this as a quintessential piece for western aficionados.

Competent directing and a great ensemble cast make for an enjoyable couple of hours which, unfortunately, don't make it far beyond trite western tropes. The soundtrack is this happy kind of Indiana Jones tune that doesn't fit the bill at all.

*Silverado* has less of a feel for the authentic old West than the Broadway musical, *Oklahoma*. But high spirits prevail, Kevin Costner has fun showing off his gun-twirling skills, and the weather is fine throughout.

Nice western, though I must admit I only watched it at that time because of Kevin Costner...

Alright, alright... We've seen all of this before. But hey, it's a homage to the golden era of Western and a damn good one.

It's a pretty solid western, but that's also the main issue here. It doesn't try to do anything different. You get your heroic epic adventure music, the ragtag band of heroes and the bad guy with no real motivation to them except greed. It's obvious that the most fleshed out character is that played by Danny Glover and all the others remain kind of safe cardboard cut-outs for any western. It's decent watching, but it overstays its welcome.

Interesting in that this came out during a time when the western genre was considered buried, but as a reconstruction it doesn't try to elevate its tropes but instead plays every stock stereotype out in a way that's boring. The narrative features various different characters who don't have any arcs nor have much catharsis to their conflict, some of which I'm not even sure what stake they had in the main conflict. The filmmaking is also drab and basic, although with some good shots admittedly.

So this is supposed to be an homage comedy, right? Except it becomes this bloated serious drama about twenty minutes in and goes on and on and on. Side note this is pretty much the only time I've seen Costner be charismatic, seems like what he took away from the success of Dances with Wolves is play it dour.

So inoffensive that I can't help but think that this is sorta an MCU/Disney western for the 80s. Action is pretty barely well-directed, but at least the cast's immense charisma kind of saves the day. Also, it drags and bumps a lot for an adventure with so much shoo-em-up happening all the time.

This is a pretty cliched Western - its family friendly for the most part though. Its an easy enough watch but no more than ok at best. I quite liked John Cleese playing the bad guy. I also quite liked the short lady who worked in the bar.

When you so desperately wants to be a rousing western, you need much better characters and story than this handsome, tiresome mess. Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner and especially Scott Glenn are awful.

atmosfer ve -iskelet halinde de olsa- karakter yaratmayı başaran, seyir keyfi yüksek çerezlik bir western. kevin costner, bob odenkirk rolünde inandırıcı sayılır. final çatışması da diğer filmlere göre biraz fazla "customized deathmatch" moduna kaçsa da işliyor. ayrıca karakterlerin, köpekten ata, yaşadıkları dünyanın biraz farkında olmaları sayesinde belli şeyleri başarıyor olması da western mitine uygun düşüyor sanki.

Takes a number of western tropes and rolls them all into an 80s adventure toned film with a mixture of darkness and levity that is quite effective. For something that jams so many disparate parts and characters together it flows incredibly well; You could cut out almost any scene but none of it ever feels superfluous. The narrative arc manages to build characterizations and develop the setting so that the climax has real stakes even if there's little doubt about what will happen.

Basically a "best of" collection for western tropes, presented competently enough. I didn't find it exciting, and I especially despised the soundtrack...the overblown orchestration was in reality mundane and didn't quite mesh with the screen action. You can't hate Kevin kline, plus the rest of the cast was delightful enough to earn this significantly more points than it would have otherwise

Passable western that is a bit less boring than westerns from the 60s and 70s. Good music and production value, but overly convoluted plot. A couple of great moments, like the Costner's corner shot.

It feels like I've just been watching four episodes of a TV-show crammed into one movie. The story jumps from one small happening to another seemingly without any connection whatsoever. The music is 80's happy and doesn't fit the genre at all.

Kasdan has a thing for classical, character-driven cinema (I think here of The Professionals), and this relishes in those roots. Because of that focus, it's really only held down by subpar acting from some minor principal performers, but nearly redeemed by the better actors: Linda Hunt is a godsend.

Silverado is a completely successful physical attempt at reviving the western, but its script would need a complete rewrite for it to become more than just a small step in a full-scale western revival.

Solid, but forgettable western with some good performances. Weak points were dialog (often cheesy), cast (too big) and running length (too long).

Costner's breakout as Kasdan promised him a good role after cutting all his scenes out of The Big Chill. Fantastic batch of actors and everyone was well-cast. Dennehy as the bastard sheriff and Goldblum as pure slime were inspired choices. Kline just doesn't have many misfires but this was even higher among my favorites of his.

The most bro western ever made. Just a group of bros kicking ass bro style while fighting off other bros seeking to hash the bro vibe. In a cooler world this is a bro franchise. Alas we only got one bro movie that bros out as hard as it can bro.
