Siddhartha

An adaptation of Herman Hesse's novel, which at the time was much in vogue. Perhaps because of this, the film seems to follow the book slavishly, and the unitiated (like myself) may be frustrated by the sometimes choppy story and the heavy, clunky dialogue. Still, it's an undeniably sincere effort, thoughtfully directed by Conrad Rooks and with some truly lovely cinematography by Sven Nykvist. The acting is solid, and the basic story is compelling. It's just not told in the best cinematic way.

Like every coin this movie has two sides, the spiritual side of the movie and the movie in itself. People who are attracted to the spiritual side of the movie would love it. The soundtrack of the movie is soulful. I believe the movie is different, as I havent read the book it would be hard to comment on this aspect. I feel this movie is a mixed bag.
