Brainless, and so far over the top that it's up in the stratosphere. You know that scene in Transporter 2 where he flips the car upside down and uses the crane hook to detach the bomb from his car in midair? Shoot Em Up is THAT moment stretched to 90 minutes. Good Times.

One of the most over-the-top and ridiculous action movies I've ever seen in my entire life. It's downright absurd. And I loved every second of it. This film is pure self-aware action and every second is fantastic. Owen, Bellucci and Giamatti are all spot on in this. If you love action films with no regard for reality this is THE movie to see. If you don't like action then certainly miss this one, there's nothing in it for you.

Just to give you a taste, the first kill in this film is done by carrot, which Clive Owen shoves into some guy's mouth, followed by a firm wallop that sends the vegetable through the henchman's brain stem. The action is followed by Clive Owen suggesting that the freshly murdered henchman eats his vegetables. If that sounds up your alley, then there is no better film for you.

Shoot 'Em Up is fun, but little more. The action scenes are inventive and completely implausible, but it's unlikely you'll remember more than one or two of them after the film ends. The plot and characters are weak, but that doesn't seem to matter much. If you want more or less non-stop action, this is a film you need to see. I can see it being offensive and turning people off, but I enjoyed it.

Overrated as hell. Heavy handed satire is poor satire. This movie seemed to think it was much more clever than it really was. Paul Giamatti also has one of the most smug annoying faces ever. There are some good effects but the lines are groan inducing. It's basically a gag that goes on beyond the 15 minutes necessary to sum up what it's about.

It's so purposely over-the-top that I can't help but love it. It some ways it feels almost like a parody of an action movie, and while it's not as smart as a Hot Fuzz, it still is entertaining as hell. I had no problem with the ridiculous action, but some of the dialogue was lacking. I understand they are supposed to be dumb one-liners, but they aren't even funny in a bad way...just awkward. It's only a slight annoyance though as there's only like 10 or so lines. Highly recommend to action fans.

A fantastic barrage of over-the-top action sequences disarm the audience and blow up the screen. Paul Giamatti is the sleaziest and most twisted villain, Clive Owen makes for a sly man-with-no-name hero, and the plot doesn't really matter. It's all about flying bullets and "Shoot 'Em Up" hits all the right bloody notes and isn't without a sense of irony.

Shoot 'Em Up is aware of its absurdity and leans into it, but it's still far from a good film. Some of the humour works, but the action is lacklustre and some of the "cheesy" dialogue flails into groan territory. The film has a grunge-punk vibe to it, and it just didn't work for me.

To say this movie is ridiculous is to grossly understate the obvious. Paul Giamatti did make a good Sociopath. Monica Bellucci is a beautiful whore. Nonstop action. Clive Owen is an unstoppable force, but the action is entirely unconvincing. A few clever scenes such as the shootout in the stairs, the car crash and numerous death by carrot. Some unexpected delights for an otherwise idiotic plot.

Saying this movie is way over the top is an understatement. There is lot of action and the movie does not take it self seriously at all. However most of the action sequences are very ho hum and there are numerous exceedingly bad one liners. A bright spot is Paul Giamatti as the over the top villain.

I hate to bust everyone's balls here, but seriously? This movie is shit. I can enjoy a turn your brain off action flick, in fact I enjoy a lot of them. This drags simply because it is only action. Bullets take less than a second to shoot so even though there are lots of them, it ultimately makes the movie dull. This takes out all feeling and emotion and replaces them with action. This is ultimately why it won't be remembered like Die Hard, action movies need to be about more than action.

it's fast, it's funny and it's totally pointless and violent. it's everything "max payne" should have been. starting with the title, it does not pretend to be anything but a movie about a dude shooting other dudes. and that's how fulfilling expectations is done right. plus the carrot running gag actually was pretty damn funny throughout.

Fun to watch nonsensical gratuitousness. While it does have replay value as a whole, the action scenes suffer from the law of diminishing returns: they get less and less novel as the film progresses, to where the last ones don't feel fresh, they feel stupid (jackrabbit-of-all-trades Owen delivers a baby in the first gunfight. Of course it goes downhill from there). Giamatti more than makes up for the fact the director forgot (I think, it's hard to tell) he began the film as a satire.

So cartoonishly over-the-top that the hero/villain dynamic is loosely modeled on Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. Davis is determined to turn as many scenes into gunfights as possible -- delivering a baby, having sex, sky-diving...all while shooting the shit out of bad guys! After a while it's just desensitizing and I became numb to the movie, but it's still fun and imaginative, in a stupid kind of way. Starring Monica Bellucci as a pair of lactating tits.

One of the most realistic movies I have ever seen. No seriously , it's almost always over the top but in a way that it's funny and you like it. You will laugh sometimes when you see what they come up with. But towards the end it was so much over the top it wasn't that good anymore ( scene at fireplace ). Besides the action it has some funny one-liners and the beautifull Monica Bellucci. You will definately enjoy yourself when watching it. And now excuse me , i'm goining to eat a carrot.

A violent live-action reimagining of a Bugs Bunny cartoon, starring Clive Owen as a "Nowhere Man" gunman with a taste for carrots and the infinitely likeable Paul Giamatti as a trigger-happy hunter, chasing down the "scwewy wabbit". The movie is absolutely ridiculous, but at no point does it forget this and attempt to be something else. This makes for an endlessly entertaining theme-park ride of a film that dares to laugh with you at it. Very violent and very entertaining wall-to-wall action.

Meh. Paul Giamatti as the unlikely villain and Monica Bellucci as the hooker with a heart of gold deliver great performances and the action is always intense and sometimes twistedly funny. But the narrative falls flat and Owen is just a guy with one facial expression and no emotion - that was interesting for a while in movies like Sin City, but it's getting old real fast.

It's a good thing this one does not take itself seriously, because the action sequences is totally over the top. So is the plot, in addition to being full of holes. Though it doesn't pretend to be smarter than it is, this "stupid cool action" really isn't that cool and is too stupid to be entertaining or even enjoyable. Mindless fun is good sometimes--see 300--but Shoot Em Up is a bastardization of the action genre and has literally no good scenes in it.
