Straightforward political drama is ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN by way of SPOTLIGHT; Reiner makes this essentially talking heads film crackle with energy, especially working with this fine cast (a clip of Galloway at the end reminds you of how perfect Jones is). The Marsden-Biel romance would have been a major misstep even if it wasn't presented as ridiculously schmaltzy as it is here; most troubling is the way this film set in the early 00s is designed and executed as a period piece!

Great cast, disappointing execution. Overall, a mediocre film. This really could've been a whole lot better.

It's an operable political thriller that's crushed under the weight of its own incoherence. It wants to be more than it is and doesn't make a clear enough bid to do so. A talented cast and a few powerful moments give it a lot of life it wouldn't have had otherwise.

Great cast and a familiar subject. Good production quality and music. The director failed to generate much excitement with this semi-documentary style history lesson. There was a little too much newsroom banter and not enough action. Performances were good, but the actors were badly underutilized. I just want to know how Jessica Biel did not rate a spot on the box?
