Seriously heartfelt mumblecore revival that completely won me over with its brilliant, restrained writing and dynamic leads. Would've been a 90 if it weren't for the time jump ending that undercut the immediacy that the film reveled in.

Raiff's amateurishness is clear, in scenes requiring more intensity as an actor and in some of the tension and extraneous ending as a writer, but overall it can't impede such a potently likeable and relatable experience. Raiff writes authentically awkward dialogue like its nothing (and it most certainly isn't), and as a voice of Gen Z extends an open hearted honesty on young adult life, there's a Linklater quality to its first half especially, two souls wandering and trying to figure out where.

Realistic and modest with an emotional but self-assured main character. That is it's biggest strength; the willingness to let our male protagonist be vulnerable without ever mocking it. Cooper Raiff's soft touch makes it a soothing watch; a warm blanket of sympathy. Raiff's restraint on a low budget is admirable and understandable, but combined with a decent, but not great, script it hinders the movie from becoming truly great, like the movies of obvious inspirations like Richard Linklater.

Sweet low-key college film that aims for Before Sunrise territory.

Regardless of the art medium, I have always believed that portraying the story of our own will always seek the high. I think Shithouse or Freshman Year is an example of it. Semi Autobiographical, It's hard to believe a college going guy made it, but it's also self evident that a college guy himself can make a movie as good as it about college. Soundtrack proves he has greatest taste in music whatsoever. Both leads were overwhelming as their characters. The story behind its production speaks more

Harika senaryo. Yapılmayanı yaptı. Filmin sonunda, aşk kazandı. Kahvaltı alan adamları üzmeyin kızlar.

Sometimes cute examination of coming of age angst. A sensitive boy (Cooper Raiff) meets a party girl (Dylan Gelula) and they both struggle to navigate a relationship that could be friends or might be love. Despite the sometimes haphazard plot, there is a thread that keeps you invested and interested. Entertaining and thought provoking. Music is a mixed bag. Good memorable acting performances. The title is misleading. Worthwhile

Like all these things the end is a bit too clean but this was still great. Very honest. Also I liked the stand up set.

A great and realistic examination of the selfishness of modern college life and the relationships built on those foundations. Mumblecore is dead, but this is a decent jolt to its corpse.

Not what I expected. From time to time you get to enjoy a low-budget indie Coming-Of-Age gem, but even if Cooper Raiff tried really hard, it wasn't enough for Shithouse's lacking script. I resisted quitting mainly for the relativeness of Cooper's character. His vulnerability and honesty on the screen.

Gotta give it up for Cooper Raiff for starring, writing and directing. A lot of responsibility and while he stumbles occasionally, it's mostly a resounding success. Putting yourself across from Dylan Gelula in the kind of role she's in is a smart move because she's so charming as that kind of character. Could have landed a few more jokes but it hits the emotional beats so it's a trade off.
