Shinjuku Triad Society

Not much to recommend here, really, except for the true Miike scholar. The trademark mixture of grim noir, extreme violence and absurdity may begin here, but was done a lot better later on in his career.

Good production visually with some perfect shots and saturation of colors that creates a dark, brutal underground world, also thanks to atmospheric music. The story was not very appealing for a certain period of time and it felt like there was no idea how to push the story forward but it ended really well. Some gay, gore and rape scenes as almost usual.

In a day and age where Hollywood action sequences are shaky cams and quick cuts, it was nice to see the brother v brother fight be more restrained. I really dug that, along with the last 20 minutes as a whole. I liked the music that kept playing during the final act. The rest of the movie is definitely enjoyable with a few good moments but it lost me sometimes. Still, Miike was showcasing some directorial charm here even if it's fairly average up until a certain point.

Very rough around the edges and the slower, more contemplative stuff doesn't work well alongside the more crazy stuff, but it is entertaining from the simultaneously hilarious and rather dark death of the police officer as blood fountains out of his wrist and throat, to a rather harsh interrogation scene which shocked me, amused me and disturbed me in equal measure, to the really bizarre prostitute, whose name escapes me, who is at times wonderfully weird and energetic. Decent fun.

Esse primeiro filme da trilogia "Black Society", conta com diálogos inteligentes e cenas hilariantes, as personagens são ótimas, destaque para o veadinho assassino a prostituta maluca e para o chefão chinês chamado Wang.

good movie

Entertaining with some good twists sprinkled in now and then. I can see how Miike fans would be disappointed, but for what it is there's not much to complain about.
