SherryBaby contains nonstop nudity, onscreen sex with Maggie Gyllenhaal and multiple guys, dicksucking, pussylicking, coke, heroin, and even a little bit of parent/child incest. Not that I'm personally offended, but what I'm saying is that if you're visiting your parents over the summer and happen to have the Netflix with you, under no circumstances should you watch it with them, because oh god.

Wrecked me. I looooove Maggie Gyllenhaal, and she is so unbelievably good in this. The film is surprising, taking turns I didn't see coming at all, and it feels rather intimate, too, as you see Sherry in so many private moments. Excellent acting all around. I always enjoy Giancarlo Esposito and Danny Trejo and they both got good roles here. I've never seen the Sherry's brother in anything, but he was excellent.

An acting showcase for Maggie Gyllenhaal and little more, but at least you're talking about someone who continually demonstrates that the more daring the role she gets the more rewarding it is to watch her. While well-meaning, the film doesn't have much of a story to tell. It's all idea and mood with little narrative drive. That doesn't prevent Gyllenhaal from tearing into her role with force and dedication, tapping into her character's rash temper and shaky vulnerability with equal verve.

I sought this out after enjoying Gyllenhaal’s "Kindergarten Teacher", and it was interesting to see that the films share common themes. Her character even works/dreams about a similar job. This earlier film was not as strong, but Gyllenhaal provides another bold performance. The film relies too much on her and leaves the script underdeveloped and other characters too thin; especially men are very one-dimensional with the exception of Danny Trejo's character.

A cherry-on-top bubble this ain't when it mostly touches some depressed and depressing realities. From a script somewhat lacking the best asset this has going for it isn't a flashy Maggie.G, her selfless portrayal of a selfish character is what to really cherish. *Preview*: #13#, exp-3*, story, reviews, cast, R2.

Big props for Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance. It was also great to see a softer side to Danny Trejo. I can't say I enjoyed the movie, it was actually painful to watch, but I guess that made it a GOOD movie.

Interesting character study of a recovering addict just out of prison. Although director's sympathies are clearly w/ Sherry, the film does try 4 something more fair & balanced as opposed to taking the easy(i.e. Hollywood or Lifetime movie) way out & turning Sherry into a forever-victim of others. No evil villains here & Sherry clearly has flaws of her own to work on. Gyllenhall is great, but her star status detracts a bit. The ending also seems a bit unlikely, but overall a realistic portrait.

Maggie Gylalenhaal is easily the best part of this movie. The story just kinda goes in circles and ultimately nowhere, and the film is visually uninteresting. It's basically an acting showcase, which is of little interest to me in the end.

Yet another display of superb acting on Gyllenhaal's part; the movie still fell disappointingly short of spectacular in every other aspect.

The movie succeeds because of Maggie Gyllenhaal's outstanding performance in the lead role. The film is hard to watch at times because you see a lot of characters making horrible decisions. Danny Trejo also is very good in a supporting role here.

This film should be better known, it really is a fantastic calling card for Maggie Gyllenhaal. Her performance encompasses every emotion an actress could ask for. The story is quite poignant and it helps that nothing is ever made black-and-white. Every decision, every character's opinion is in that muddy grey area so typical of real life scenarios. Those are just two reasons why you feel so involved and drawn in to this story. A tour-de-force by director and star.
