An hour of holmes openly goading the villains and some top notch humor from nigel bruce make this one of my favorites in the series

A true mystery film that also has the flavour of a James Bond movie (or should I say, many James Bond films resemble this particular cinematic Rathbone/Bruce adventure), in particular the three ridiculously evil enemies in the form of Gregor, Mirko and Gubec. Neill grabs the attention of the viewer from the very start and does not let go; I'll never look at (or eat) fish and chips the same way again! I will also here forth refer to Robert Louis Stevenson as "the Treasure Island fellow."

From a mystery P.O.V., this is not one of the better films in Universal's Holmes series, but any film with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson is worth a look.

Pursuit to Algiers (1945) felt like one of the weakest Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone. Best parts was Holmes underhanded insults at his pal Dr. Watson. The plot was a little too obvious, so the traps felt poorly constructed. This is still a Sherlock Holmes movie with Rathbone, so it's bound to be entertaining nonetheless.

Another fun Holmes/Rathbone film, it does start to drag by the end.

One of the best Rathbone Sherlock films.

A lot of red herrings and Watson still being dumb as dirt but not as dumb as usual helps things along. I'm warming up to Rathbone, but the villains are so cocky it becomes goofy as their elaborate plots fail over and over again. When their last one succeeds-- just busting into Holmes' room and taking the guy-- it's the funniest part of the film by far.

Carries the distinction of being the only Holmes in which I did not predict the final outcome. Even still, it's rather tedious with no real thrills. Holmes is never really challenged and neither is the audience. I've ranked this high more for its' finale than the whole.

Well written and thoroughly entertaining. Its a shame that Watson was portrayed as a complete idiot however.

Notable for its multiple red herrings, and not much else. As always the case, however, it's a quick bit of light entertainment.
