She-Devil

Meryl Streep uses the uselessness of this film as an excuse to devour the literally cheap celluloid and make a tour-de-force out of a soft-sighing, pillow-humping, love-buttoning performance. It's actually cult and you must watch it.

Entertaining movie with bad undertones. Ed Begley...what was so great about him that divorce wasn't an option? Or Streep could have just dumped his ass to the curb. Streep is the best thing about this. She just looks so wonderful. I don't understand why they made Roseanne look even worse. Fav scene: Streep was just stunning at the ball.

Quel playboy ce Gomez ! J'ai adoré, et j'ai bavé devant toutes ses apparitions, excellent personnage, qui s'approprie un ton comique, dissociable du reste du film. Meryl Streep aurait dû être plus mordante, la comédie féministe ne décolle jamais vraiment, l'explosion en studio fait vraiment cheap.

Having watched the BBC version Life and Love of A She Devil, the whole movie comes off as pathetic. The actors are pale shadows of the BBC version. The plot has been Disneyized to death to give us that "happy ending'" full of hope that seems to glut the American market. It's cotton candy American Version to the BBC's 5 Course dinner. The depth and meaning has been lost.

I bet you didn't remember Meryl Streep was once in a comedy. Most likely, because the comedy was unfunny, despite Roseanne appearing at the peak of her vastly underrated comedic skills.

Though I always liked Roseanne Barr as a standup comedienne, she can't really act, and Meryl Streep is infinitely funnier in this. But the whole thing is pretty stupid.

Not very funny and not at all well-made.

Absolutely witless "comedy" with feminist pretensions that is very poor in all respects.

Meryl Streep and Rosanne Barr together. Bad idea. They tell me the original had satiric bite. This doesn't.

Uneven comedic reworking of a distinctly unforgiving feminist fiction. Arnold is given too much to handle (her role requires an actual range of emotions); Streep's role is too slight, though she does great things with it.

I have very vague memories of this, but in retrospect I'm pretty sure it was a very goofy remake of Les Diaboliques.

So so remake of the British original (which was far superior)
