The action sequences in the first half hour, alongside lame dialogue and a predictable setup, makes the film feel like it's from the mid to late 2000's. Fury of the Gods picks as it goes along but never shakes the feeling that it's all be done before; from the Age of Mythology finale to Zegler (who delivers a solid performance) reminding of someone else every time she was onscreen. Overall the pace isn't bad (for a 130 minute film) but it's thoroughly underwhelming even with the odd good moment.

Levi's charisma is intact and he keeps things fun and entertaining, but not very memorable without Billy's other half. That is the movie's one big flaw: Underutilizing Angel meant losing the first movie's emotional core, which becomes all the more apparent by Angel selling the only scene with any gravitas in this one; needed more of that.

Pretty much done with cape shit. Felt really awkward feeling like the young actresses were hot. This was as good of a movie as they could reasonably make, but is by no means a return to form for the genre, but rather another blip on an already spiraling trajectory.

It was alright. Nothing special. Nothing awful. The villains' motivation made no sense. Fun but hollow.

Marginally better than the first. The letter-reading scene is hilarious and the jokes adjacent to it work fairly well. It does an okay job with the shazam family but again Levi doesn't behave like younger Billy enough. Meagan Good is the best as the youngest shazam hero but the others are fine. The antagonists are slightly more than one-dimensional too. Powers are inconsistent. CGI is adequate. Wonder Woman at the end was cringe 5000 that should have been removed.

Remember when superheroes could be silly? Billy/Shazam seems *too* stupid and the villain(?) triad is not terribly exciting, but there is a lot to like in this good-natured adventure. Zegler and Grazer have surprisingly good chemistry, Mirren is having a blast, and Hounsou finally gets his due. There need not be a grand plan to just enjoy a frickin' superhero movie.

I'm disappointed, Mr. Sandberg. There were a few moments that I enjoyed (I really loved the Dr. Strange-esque scene!), but at the end of the movie, I couldn't help feeling that we are not going to see Shazam in the rebooted universe. My one major gripe was how the internal conflict within the female trio, each embodying distinct mindsets, was portrayed in such an underwhelming, dull manner.

Shazam! 2 lacks the novelty and freshness of the original, but it ultimately delivers a solid graphic novel experience, something that is becoming increasingly rare in modern cinema.

Positively rank screenplay. Painfully stilted comedy, endless mythologizing in the front half, and inevitably way too much time with the young super-powered crew as their charmless adult Shamazed selves. Boring from the jump, but outright impossible to pay attention to by the time we hit the CG onslaught of a finale. And good gravy, the actual I-kid-you-not Skittles commercial wedged into the last act is insanely embarrassing.

Sitcom episode about gaining the confidence to lead a group. Granted, here he does so by becoming a suicide bomber, proving his willingness to commit the ultimate sacrifice. But magically, of course, he survives, and the harmony of the universe is restored. Some of the jokes are pretty funny, but some of the writing in between the jokes just seems like it’s designed to get from point A to point B, like a dancer who can do tricks but doesn’t really know how to dance from one step to the next.

The first 2/3rds of this movie was an awful borefest. And it stole too much plot from the first movie, kinda? How could it be so bad? There were some nice feelings and messages in the last part of the movie and I almost enjoyed it toward the end, but that's nowhere near enough to redeem it.

The cast is doing their best and all the elements of a solid action adventure film are here, but the movie is just missing any spark, beyond a few nice scenes between the super family members. A lot of the elements of the film feel by the numbers and even the villains and action scenes are a little uncompelling. Also, not to spoil, but it ends with a pretty big deus ex machina, which made me wonder, why didn't that just happen in the first place? Not a great sequel.

If this had been in the first round of super-hero flicks, it might have been seen as pretty good. But after so many similar storylines from Marvel and DC, this felt very predictable, even through the "surprise" cameo at the end. Now, the comics were, at times, silly, and there's still a bit of that here (the Reading of the Letter scene was the best) but those moments are often just played for laughs and not in advancement of the plot.

I don't think it left quite as strong of an impression as the first movie, but I still enjoyed this one. It was a lot of fun seeing the whole team, and I thought the villain was more interesting this time around too, but I think the comedy wasn't quite as good, and the CGI looked pretty bad this time whereas it was fine last time imo.

Seems like the makers thought; let’s drop the kid trapped in a adult superhero body parts, which made the first movie work and set out from the other DCEU movies, and instead focus on a mediocre thirteen in a dozen superhero movie plot.

Reasonably fun and diverting bit of superhero fluff. Won't remotely win over anyone with major superhero fatigue - the action sequences are almost all watered down Dragon Ball Z cartoon fights with flying and mega punches and power beams - but it has just enough personality and humor around the edges to be worthwhile. Also credit where it's due for most of the lady superheroes and supervillains wearing sexy skirts that show off their legs; didn't know the year 2023 had that heat left in it.

While there were some fun aspects (the monsters, Lucy Liu, the lair), overall it was dreadful to watch. The dialogues were abysmal and the teenager scenes - painful. I don't remember much from the first movie, but anything would have been better than that.

W3E1P1S0V1M1A1R1. Watchable but weak. A couple jokes got me good, but lots of cringe-worthy acting. Similar to the first one, Levi plays a pretty good grownup-with-the-personality-of-a-kid, but they forgot to make sure he was behaving like the actual kid they have playing his counterpart. Lady whose only power is whispering is somehow "too powerful" just because she climbs aboard a dragon? Which sometimes can fly at superspeed but other times is just like, a normal dragon?

Probably a slight improvement on the first but I'm not in love with these movies, despite a massive superhero bias. There's nothing here that's BAD... the action is fun, there's some heart, some of the jokes work, the story is fine for what it is. But nothing here is great either. If Shazam movies kept being made they would probably all be decent.

Goofy superhero time! Mildly fun at first, and then it surprisingly got even more fun. Not really a necessary one, it provided enough popcorn entertainment to keep the family quiet. But they also felt this was a stupid movie, which it went all-out to be. And as a example of the superheroes overflowing the market, I went into this one without realizing I hadn't seen the first one from 2019.

While not great I enjoyed the first film, this one, however, was a bit of a miss. This wasn't a terrible movie but I found that they aimed a little lower going for a preteen crowd, maybe. Also, I wasn't a fan of the whole superhero family and their normal family drama side plot. I also, found it weird that Shazam was a side character in his own movie, and yes I know this is an unfortunate trend at the moment.

I think I dug this one a bit more than it's predecessor but not enough to bump it to an 80. This was fun. I don't really understand why they're trying to build on top of this given that we're staring down the barrel of Flashpoint, BUT, the cameo was solid, the pacing didn't drag, the villains had decent motivation though felt a little out of place among the camp. Fans of the first will certainly enjoy this as it's fundamentally more of the same. Let's see where things go from here.

Wonder Woman was the best thing in this movie. That was about 5 min worth. 3 Evil Sisters who want revenge to destroy all humans. 1 Sister becomes Evil betrays the 2 sisters, they become good & Shazam & friends save the day. Shazam dies & Wonder Woman brings him back to life. 2 Post Scene credits. 1st Shazam is recruited by the justice Society, he was thinking yes I get to be with Wonder Woman. I agree with Shazam what was the fat guy's problem in not liking her. 2. you see a doctor in jail.

Building off the critical success of the first one, Shazam 2 kind of stumbles into a fun, but generic mess. It’s incredible reliance on cliches and questionable decision making. The writing itself paints itself into a corner with the balance of our antagonist’s powers. The trio of villains are serviceable, but don’t overshadow the fact they feel generic and slightly out of place given the huge amount of comedic relief presented. The third act is fun, but can only do much. It’s okay.

"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is a film that, while ambitious and visually stunning, is ultimately undone by its narrative complexity and tonal inconsistency.
