Shattered

I'm a big fan of unsure of himself Tom Berenger which is basically any Tom Berenger that isn't evil Tom Berenger. This one kept me both guessing AND interested, a combination that was once believed to be necessary for an entertaining mystery but which of course went out of fashion sometime during the late aughts.

Superb noir thriller that features one of the great twists ever, presented 3/4 of the way in. After that the whole thing plummets into abysmal 90s cheese with a conclusion that must've been conceived over cappuccinos while on the set. Still a good attempt. Hoskins channels his inner Devito and I really believed Tom Berenger was physically disfigured throughout the movie. Now THAT'S acting.

This film is insane. I love the twist, but it's also one of ten things that happen that make you think, "wait, what?" For as much as Tom Bergenger does not work for me in this, Bob Hoskins picks up all that slack. When people complain about what the MCU has taken from us, this is the type of the film they are talking about.

Playfully savvy and intriguing script, filled with outlandish, steroid-engorged Soap-Opera devices and turns. Could only have been pulled off in the early 90s wave of sexy neo-noir thrillers. In other words, a pure guilty pleasure. Not even sorry.

An exciting thriller with a great turn from Bob Hoskins. I miss twisty-turny plots.

A néo-noir that more than dabbles in melodrama with some of the acting choices. The twists are ridiculous but that is part of the fun of this. I often find Berenger akin to a sack of potatoes, but he chums along with Hoskins so all if well.

Not terrible--okay way to pass the time. Fun plot, looks like a TV movie.

Couldn't get into it. It was a rough film with a heart-breaking emotional core. Could be really great in some people's opinions. But I watch films for fun.
