I found Shadow of the Eagle (1950) a very polished affair royal conflicts and swashbuckling. Richard Greene came off quite the charismatic hero, and Valentina Cortese was the beautiful lady you'd imagine he'd melt for. Binnie Barnes as the Empress of Russia was a stand-out presence. I feel this one deserves more attention, but of course there are many films with a similar theme that were more ambitious.
