Sgt. Bilko

Minimal laughs, but there were still a few laughs. Very few times when Steve Martin gets really annoying, but in this movie he does.

A good and likable cast carries this as far as they can, but sedate and sleepy pacing means it never builds up a satisfactory comic momentum; Martin is miscast (or at least wrongheaded) as Bilko; with the role requiring smarmy charm, Martin chooses a “Jerk” interpretation, when he might have worked better as a “Scoundrel” (Headley’s presence in the support cast makes this even more glaring). Not egregiously bad, but a pretty sore waste of a lot of talent.

It was really really predictable, other movies like it that did it better, but its Steve Martin, so no matter the hammy storyline, it was very entertaining to watch.

God strike me down, but I like this film to a degree - and it's quite quotable (see how many people notice, and surprise yourself).

I just saw this on TV today and it's hilarious! It's very plain and straightforward, but it stands perfectly where it was meant to. Respect to that.

So apparently, everyone hates this movie. I'm not going to say it's a great film by any stretch, but it is fun. Light, mindless and predictable fun, but certainly fun. Now, I'm too young to have ever seen the series, so I have no sacred memories for this movie to desecrate. I just love vintage Steve Martin, and am a sucker for Phil Hartman. Maybe it's just been a while since I've seen it, but I remember being quite entertained.

A misfire for everyone involved, and one that should never have seen the light of day.

Both bland and pointless, Sgt. Bilko isn't offensively bad -- it's just another comedy flirting with the lower tier mediocrity (but not quite achieving it).

Do you like annoying movies labeled as comedies, yet are devoid of any actual humor or jokes? Do you like movies involving the military, yet are grossly inaccurate portrayals from a realistic or technical standpoint? Do you like incredibly abrasive characters in your movies, with not ONE character you can relate to? Do you like bad CGI? Do you like movies that piss on Phil Hartman? Then this is the movie for you.

Wow. No one likes this movie. They have a right to. It's very dumb and unbelievable. (I secretly laugh at parts, though)
