Andy Serkis is fantastic in this.

A colourful biopic of a tormentated soul. It brought back how good his lyrics were, but there wasn't much of a story.

Maybe not a masterpiece of cinema, but conveys the essence of Ian Dury very well.

Dury's music is an acquired taste so dressing it up in animation made a kind of sense, didn't really work for me though. Serkis did great, perfectly pitched between rock-star egotism and humility but there's not a lot happening.

a bit of a mess

Wonderful Ian Dury -- England's most endearing punk-era showman -- deserves a biopic worthy of his bouncy, ribald and trenchant songs. The new movie Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll ain't it.

The only thing noticeable in this ever-changing out-of-focus mess of sounds and images is good acting of Andy Serkis. It getting clear after Bronson and this film, that British filmmakers are trying hard to make biopic without a story. Maybe someday they will learn.

Serkis does a great job of Dury, A surreal film which takes the mick not unlike Dury himself in his lifetime .
