This is a delightful musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol. Cold-souled Ebenezer Scrooge has a change of heart after spirit visitations on Christmas Eve. Folks might not have had much to sing about in 1840's England, but this musical will make you believe otherwise. Kenneth More's musical number as the Ghost of Christmas Present is especially entertaining. (imdb)

Decent musical version of the Dickens tale, with Finney a capable Scrooge, and some alright songs. Everything in it is generally likeable to an extent, although it didn't resonate with me to the extent that the versions with Sim and Scott did. Or The Muppets, for that matter. Alec Guinness pops up with a rather curious take on Jacob Marley. There were a couple of quite interesting shots dotted throughout that lent interest. Decent, as I said, if unspectacular.

Never quite manages to seperate its unintenional hilarity with its actual attempts at humour, but does admittedly remain charming and fun at all times. Finney is great and Guinness in particular brings a unique thespian dandy-esq flair to Marley's Ghost. Bricusse's score is nothing special, but a couple of solid tunes are squeezed in and all-in-all, although this is far from the best telling of this tale it's a nice festive time-waster.

The first two thirds are actually one of the best adaptations of the story I have ever seen. Funny, a bit spooky and touching in the right places. Then it completely and utterly drops the ball with the third ghost. Instead of going all in on the scary, we get "Thank you very much" a boring jokesong, that drags on for far too long and doesn't even get a punchline. And the scene in hell is plain dumb. And, sadly, the movie doesn't really recover after this stumble.

A very fun and somewhat uplifting movie. Most of the songs worked and I liked that the singing and dancing didn't all look like it was done by professionals. My favorite part was when Scrooge went around collecting debts and my least favorite part was the ghost of Christmas future scenes as I felt they lacked some emotional impact.

A musical version of _A Christmas Carol_, starring Albert Finney -- yes, singing -- as Scrooge. It shouldn't work, but it does, at least to a point

This was an attempt to replicate the success of OLIVER!, but nothing about it is as good.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite film version of A Christmas Carol. It keeps the atmophere fun and the music lifts the spirits. Most definitely a good family movie.

Probably my favorite of the many big-screen adaptations of "A Christmas Carol," bolstered by Finney's terrific performance (not to mention Alec Guinness, Edith Evans, and Robert More as the ghosts) and lovely songs by Leslie Bricusse.
