(SIRIUS 6B, Year 2078) On a distant mining planet ravaged by a decade of war, scientists have created the perfect weapon: a blade-wielding, self-replicating race of killing devices known as Screamers designed for one purpose only -- to hunt down and destroy all enemy life forms. (imdb)

I would probably hesitate to recommend this to anybody, for it is, in fact, far from a genuinely good film, at least in the traditional sense. Having a predilection for science fiction, this was, however, right up my alley. The concept of buzz saws magically evolving into cyborgs is preposterous, you say? I, for one, find that hilarious.

An incredibly underrated film with a lot more depth than first glimpse, slightly rushed, good atmosphere, poor effects.

Classic Phillip K. Dick. The acting and special effects are OK but this is REAL science fiction. Not sure why it is so universally hated yet people adore awful its contemporaries like Starship Troopers and the Fifth Enema...

It's by no means an excellent film but it's got enough redeeming qualities to make it worthwhile for a single viewing.

Starship Tremors with a dash of paranoia a la The Thing, but don't be fooled; this is its own breed of bad. Paul Weller shows some charisma, but the rest of the cast are hilarious. There's an ill-developed romance and shoehorned themes in the last ten minutes that aren't foreshadowed, and we're also dealt a ludicrous number of twists, to the point where I had a hard time believing it was taking itself seriously on any level. Still, it's an easy one to recommend as schlocky fun.

Cheap, ugly and silly dystopian sci-fi is a dodgy warmed over mishmash of influences lacking a crucial transformative element. You know, something to distract you from the blatant thievery. The stop motion effects are only a step above your average 90's Full Moon film, and while the location footage is fine, the interiors are totally unimaginative and bereft of any sense of design. Weller is ok, but his romance with Rubin is not convincing, and some of his dialogue is laughable.

Personal favourite. Could have been so much more! unfortunately the story is simple and so are the effects, probably due to budget. Peter Weller is uber cool tho, and man Jennifer Rubin is so hot! :) For the bored nights

I'm really torn in deciding whether to give Screamers a 5 or a 6 star rating. This is not a great movie, but there's just enough here to make watching it worthwhile. If you're in to dystopic futures, especially ones involving outer space, you'll probably want to see this. If you're in to developing AI type movies, this also should hold interest for you.

This is a terrible movie, some of the special effects are so poorly done your eyes will melt. The paper thin plot oftentimes doesn't even make sense. And in the end, it's a terribly funny and somehow entertaining movie.

The tense atmosphere and bleak setting help make this a lot more enjoyable than most bargain bin sci-fi. However the special effects are mostly piss poor and the plot gets a little silly.

What truly sinks it is the poor special effects. I've seen a better effort put into 50s television shows. Disappointing considering the source material.

We read the Philip K. Dick short story this was based on "Second Variety" and had a lot of fun talking about it and this wild 90s flick on my podcast INK TO FILM, give us a listen!

The story is OK; I'm just uncomfortable with children as antagonists. I think they fit roles that portray them as adorable and huggable beings. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; Below 70=Forget it

Finally took the time to watch this one. Actually, decent sci-fi action movie. Was great seeing Peter Weller again too. So good as Robocop.

There isn't much here for people that are not REALLY interested in sci-fi and sci-fi themes. I think the movie could've been better, but it's an okay watch.

I enjoyed this more than it deserved. It's a solid sci-fi B-movie with no pretensions of being anything more. Things get a bit silly towards the end, but fun was had guessing who was going to turn out to be a Screamer next. The final shot leaves things open for what could have been the most hilariously badly-conceived sequel ever.

Suffers a lot from being made in the 90s around the time CGI was becoming popular, some parts wouldn't look out of place in a DOS game. Also has a naff fight scene, ropey dialogue and is mercilessly generic. Acting can be forgiven if you just choose to pretend everyone is a robot. I suppose if you wanted a perfectly average and unremarkable example of action sci-fi to show to the natives before you bust out Terminator, Alien and Robo Cop this will do.

Laughable special effects and a terrible plot makes up this brutally mediocre sci-fi flick. Worth a single viewing, but overall is horrible and lives up to its reputation.

Better than its reputation, but still just an average film that just sort of peters out from a promising start. Good atmosphere, but the story is rudimentary. Don't remember the special effects so I can't comment on that too much. It didn't bother me.
