Syringes. That's all I remember and all I have to. If a movie is made with the sole purpose to make you squirm and it delivers, is it a good movie? This movie stands to prove that no, it isn't.

I was always a fan of the scenes between Tobin Bell and Donnie Wahlberg in this movie, as both are underrated actors. Bell in particular is very impressive as he brings a lot of menace to the Jigsaw character. Unofrtunately, everything else in this movie just really doesn't work. It lacks the creativity of the first one, and the violence feels tacked on and uneccesary. A disappointing sequel, and a good clue to the crap that was to come.

Plenty of brutality and gore with absolutely nothing else to back it up. It's much more uninspired and makes no other improvements from the first film while also lacking the inspired idea of the original that made it half decent. The plotline remains just about adequate, but the film relies substancially on the success of its predecessor.

Truly a prefect sequel to it's original it incorporates the formula that made the first one so well liked into an all new scenerio, display that the series was finally realizing itself and what it was trying to accomplish.

I’ll use a strange word in regards to a brutal movie franchise, but the first Saw worked because it was subtle. You had no idea what was going on, you didn’t know violence was the expected outcome, and the plot twists were very well hidden. The team behind the sequel thought Saw was solely about traps and gore, and I guess the franchise’s longevity proved them right. But it’s a very average movie with too much gratuitous shock value, which could maybe have been good with a more subtle script.

Yeah I'm doing it. I think the fact everybody is so bad at the puzzles is funny. I guess it sorts of take away from the traps if people don't need those to end up dead though, but the second of a series can do whatever it wants, it didn't have the expectations of being only about traps back then

After marathoning the seven original Saw movies, I can say that this one was my favorite (even over the original): the expanded presence of Tobin Bell's jigsaw makes for one hell of a charismatic mastermind villain, it has the most natural and compelling blending of the police investigation with the death game, it has one of the best twists, and the death game itself is satisfyingly horrific without becoming overly exploitative.

None of what happens really makes much sense when you think about it. The key character wasn't being "tested" in any sense. It was an elaborate set up ... so elaborate that it could have failed in dozens and dozens of ways, stranding the people who set it up holding their dicks and looking like fools. Nothing with the 8 people trapped in a room was necessary. It all just risked the life of the main conspirator. This is all noise and mild gore with a hollow center.

Too early to introduce an apprentice - as we get some backstory on how Jigsaw was 'born' - but at least Amanda makes the case for an interesting character (syringe pool is cool). It works mostly as an expanded version of the first - self-contained space with traps, now 8 participants, lot of exposition left for last - and it definitely feels as sadistic as moralistic -- Jigsaw doesn't 'kill', just punishes people who hate/waste life (again, Seven-style). At least a dirty cop is on the line.

Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) investigates a bloody murder and feels that Jigsaw, the killer who left a trail of bodies and body parts, is active again. He is quickly proved right. This time Jigsaw has not locked up two people, but as many as eight people who do not know each other and do not know their mutual connection. They will only survive if they use their wits. This also applies to Matthews, for whom time is running out.

Having never actually seen this one(for some reason I skipped this one)when the twist hit I was genuinely surprised. The needle pit scene is arguably one of the most unnerving scene I've ever seen. There's a certain bleakness to the puzzle that Amanda creates where multiple people are pawns in a game(lol) to fuck over one man as more of a revenge fantasy than a lesson teaching. I dunno I'm thinking too much about Saw 2

Same kind of grimy aesthetic from the first one, but a few less numetal music video techniques. Obviously it's stupid and it's morals are completely misguided, but the story still works and the twists genuinely work.

Definitely lacks the unique and disturbing flare of the first, but I do like it more than some people. You can tell Donnie Wahlberg is having fun with this and he does make most of his scenes a little more entertaining. The "characters" or more so bodies used at the expense of the game are fine, and two of them are semi decent, but overall you still don't really care. The traps and gore are still interesting, and do give the movie a bump. It's definitely a solid sequel.

The original was no masterpiece by any stretch but this sequel takes any sort of nuance or pretext about being an actual story and just throws it out the window. The original had it's moments of gore and visceral-horror but those were set-up well and not the focus of the film. This is a flimsy plot that is little more than a sequence of excuses to have more gore and less character-work.

Perhaps both the most unnecessary and the most inevitable sequel of all time, "Saw II" manages to lose a great deal of what made its already severely flawed originator so immediately iconic, adding a police procedural bent to what should be a shapeless narrative of a killer justifying his self-actualised morals while inflicting his unique brand of punishment, and quadrupling the number of protagonists to the point of rendering them all lifeless, hollow, and dull. A sign of things to come.

The scenes with the survivors were all very annoying. For a movie that tries to separate from cliche bullshit so much, it manages to make every character incredibly cliche. Not to mention how little thought was put into the actual game and traps. Feels like they spent months writing the ending and how they could work it out and said fuck it to everything else.

The premise of Saw II is rather interesting and actually kept me entertained for the most part. Saw II fails on many levels, especially the acting. Where all the actors gave great performances in the first movie, in this one, none of the victims other than Shawnee Smith gave anything close to a good performance. Cops' story was good but the traps weren't nearly as interesting. A good B- movie.

Saw II might not be the breath of fresh air that Saw was, but it does enough differently from the first installment, as well as being extremely enjoyable while it plays. The two separate storylines work in tandem with one another to become something very effective, the puzzles and traps are just as creative as they were in the previous film, and the further exploration of its villain made the character more interesting. I recommend it to those who don't get turned away from squeamish material.

Unlike most horror flicks, Jiggsaw is one of those guys in a film I can respect more than Freddy or Jason simply because it's not a "fight for your life because this guy will kill you if you're too late". When tobin bell isn't on screen the film is bland. He is so intense and quietly nuanced as jigsaw all of his scenes are gripping. The drama and gore that play out in the house are pretty standard horror even in 05 but not atrocious(speaking as a genre fan that is). Not as intimate as the original but it still has a sense of mystery and the twist at the end is a good payoff.

Saw II manages to improve on most of the areas the first Saw came up short in. Unfortunately it ends up void of all the great things from the first Saw, again making the movie an uneven mess. Despite its mediocrity, it manages to paint a more even picture than its predecessor and as such is the definitive movie in the Saw collection before the series goes to hell with number 3.

Effectively tense and horrific, but also horrifically idiotic and banal in every conceivable way. It took until the aughties for "torture porn" to become a fad and for the graphic horror genre to finally draw big production money from the studios. Sadly, like everything highly commercialized in America, this resulted in just really slick stinkers like this.

Better than the first but still suffers from piss-poor plotting, where characters suddenly have flashbacks to previously unseen events every time they need to resolve a situation. The supposed twist of the real killer's identity was painfully obvious after the whole "likes to be in the trap" setup of the original. And on the needle pit, possibly one of the most sickening scenes in recent movie history, and this is a definite miss.

How does the first sequel in an increasingly ludicrous (and ludicrously successful) franchise remain its low-point? This is vile, trashy exploitation that takes its aesthetic cues from puke and fools itself into believing its villain-cum-antihero has something meaningful to say. The first Saw was decent because it was campy and attempted to be something more than its death sequences; Saw II figures the latter is all we want. Worse yet, based on its popularity, I suppose that is true.
