Personal Diary (last entry) -
I should have listenend and stayed away. But no, I had to see for myself. The stories were true, Samurai Cop is not a movie. It is an unholy enigma that exists in a perfect state of being both 'amazing' and 'unwatchable', never tipping over to any side. Every scene my whole self was unable to decide whether to laugh or scream, freezing my brain in place. I think this drove me quite mad. Please don't watch this. Oh god you gotta see this thing. No! Yes! No! AUGHH!

Holy crap. This movie isn't so bad it's good. It isn't so bad it's bad. It's so bad...it's BIBLICAL. I could attempt penning a witty review, but it could never beat dialogue like this: "Shoot! Shoot him! Oh, you got him." Or: "Shoot! Shoot him! Shoot! Shoot him! Shoot! Shoot him! You got him. Yeah, I got the bastard." Or: "He's burnin'! He's burnin'! He's on fire! He's burnin'! He's burnin'! Do something, man! He's burnin'!" Fuck my family name. I'm totally naming my first-born Robert Z'Dar.

A friend "recommended" this masterpiece to me. An astonishingly inept piece of film-making, to the extent that it is impossible to imagine how they could have made it worse. It really has to be seen to be believed, although I can't recommend watching it as it will destroy your sanity. There is obviously a huge amount of comedy value to be had from films this bad, although this one is SO bad it could break you. Be warned.

As a frequent terrible movie watcher, the key ingredient of a so called so-bad-it's-good movie for me is some kind of sign that the people making the film are enjoying making the movie, or have some enthusiasm for it. But Shervan was some kind of clueless auteur who took himself far too seriously, and greatly overestimated his mastery of both filmmaking and the English language in general. The sad part is that the cast recognized this, but weren't given the latitude to make any fun out of it.

After another attempt at making a half-assed low-rent quasi buddy cop style action movie, director Amir Shervan accidentally succeed by making a cult classic so-bad-it's-good movie instead. Packed with text book examples of odd & fascinating bad movie quirks, that when combined become capable of hypnotizing audiences with its awfulness. Although plenty of delightfully charming so-bad-it's-good laughs, a lot of the movie is just an unadulterated terribly made B-movie that needs to be experienced.

This doesn't deserve to be called a film. Rating it will destroy the integrity of any ranking scale because even the most useless of real films would have to be moved upwards in order to signal the massive inferiority of this garbage which fails on every level, even as camp. For now, let it be noted that, if it were possible, I would rank Samurai Cop infinitely less. It is, truly, one of the worst pieces of shit I have ever had the misfortune of having thrown at me. Don't make the same mistake!

It's got glaring continuity errors, poorly choreographed fight scenes, ridiculous plot devices, laughable editing, cheesy 80's synth music throughout, and three of the most painfully uncomfortable-to-watch love scenes I've ever witnessed. It's a fucking classic.

A truly awful film, but as with the best bad movies it's made by eccentric writer/director who fully believes he's creating a classic for the ages. This deserves a place alongside The Room as one of the mostly wonderfully ham-fisted attempts at movie making ever. Utterly terrible, but endlessly watchable.

Like many so-bad-it's-good films the momentum of the laughs does stall out a bit over time, but there's at least a good solid belly laugh every five minutes through the whole runtime, which is more than I can say for most true "comedies" I've seen lately. The cutaways to Mark Frazer's reactions are consistently fantastic, not to mention the bad dubbing/dialogue, awkward close-ups, gratuitous nudity, etc. Overall very enjoyable.

The close up shots in this film probably are a direct influence for the famous Dark Place floating head shot. Everything is stammered in this film. The dialogue and action all have these gaps before and after they happen, like the editing is a loose afterthought. Count the over exposed shots as well, incorrect colouring from shot to shot, bizarre dialogue, cheap props (that lion head) and I bet the over tanned lead smelled like coconut the entire shoot. Also, that wig..

RiffTrax 80. Movie wasn't really that bad by '80s action movie standards. There really are some terrible ones. Without the commentary I probably wouldn't even have noticed some of the hilarity. Matt Karedas really looks like a buff Steve Carell. Partner contributed nothing except for facial expressions. Fav scenes: sword fight at the end for the flexing fisticuffs and sneaking in Robert Z'Dar into the ICU to murder the gang member in the most convoluted manner.

The epitome of "so-bad-it's-good". The cheesy dialog with the awkward delivery is comedy gold, the god awful editing and choreography makes fight scenes a holler, and I have never seen a movie with such good hair in my life! No movie since or before has displayed such fantastic use of male hairstyles. The only real downside is the sex scenes because somehow, the men are more attractive to me than the women and I'm straight! 10/10 bulge.

More baffling & fascinating than hilarious, except when it all becomes too much. It's Ed Wood grade naive ineptness mixed with embarrassing soft-core fixation through a persistently thick 80's haze that never wore off. Stylistically it's the cinematic equivalent of the fifteenth night of hard drug use in a sleazy motel room with TV switching between cheap cop shows & awkward porn. A coked up vision of American popular culture through the eyes one crazy Iranian immigrant living the dream.

This movie is what would happen if the guys from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia followed through on their Dolph Lundgren movie where it switches back and forth between fighting crime and penetration until it just sort of ends. Overall, Samurai Cop is a solid B-movie with some slow stretches, but many great scenes with amazingly inept dialogue.

Much that like one-legged, toothless hobo in front of my house who yells obscenities at school going children, Samurai Cop holds that rare distinction of being both awesome and bad at the same time. The dialogues are out this world redonkulous and every woman in this film is about as horny as a black-tailed jackrabbit on Viagra. What more could you ask for ?

So bad it's bad, remarkably bad. At first it's funny because of this, but it's the single joke, uninventive kind of badness, and this joke wears out fast, leaving head-splitting brainfuck. It took me a week to recuperate. But then I saw that someone finally found Hannon, unforgettable lead actor, and he put up a v-log on youtube! I grabbed a phone and called everyone I know to tell about. So I guess there is something about this movie...

For me this doesn't really come close to matching Troll 2, but it's an iconic piece of crap for a good reason. Unbelievably incompetent in every possible way, from plotting to acting to editing & everything in between. Hilariously terrible ADR, the most wooden lead performance I have ever seen courtesy of Matt Hannon, the most uncomfortably dull sex scenes maybe ever filmed, loads of flubbed lines, awful cinematography, the works. It should be seen at least once, though, for the sheer spectacle.

Samurai Cop is what you would get if an alien remade Lethal Weapon in the style of The A-Team using porn stars and no budget to speak of. Just thinking about this movie instantly cracks me up. The insane dialogue, Hannon's atrocious wig, the hilarious situations, Frazer's bizarre reaction shots, the boatload of mullets, the terrible dubbing, Z'Dar in the tiny cart, the cringeworthy sex scenes. You couldn't be this incompetent if you tried. Honestly the most entertaining thing i've seen in years.

Featuring sloppy editing and continuity, cringe-worthy dialogues, mediocre acting and hardly a fragment of competence as far as setting up a camera and lighting a shot go, "Samurai Cop" is haphazardly made on all fronts. The needless nudity, boring action and overall daftness are balanced out by a handful of truly hilarious, campy moments including some uproariously ridiculous deaths. It's slightly too tedious to be a great bad film but it's badly made and random enough to come very, very close.

I have said numerous times that there should be a separate scale for trash films, and if I were grading it on that scale, I would give it a perfect score. Baffling, misogynistic and downright hilarious, Samurai Cop embodies the best of the trash film "genre." Samurai Cop is what you get when space aliens steal cable, watch a whole bunch of action movies and then decide to make one. If you don't like this film, just exactly what would interest you? Something the size of a jumbo jet?

I was disappointed in how boring this was, particularly in the action sequences, considering it's hailed as one of the "classic" so bad it's good movies. It has a lot of great moments, but they are interspersed among what feels like hours of meaningless, samey action. The dialog and reaction shots are an absolute blast. I'd prefer it if Frank was the main protagonist. Whether or not you enjoy this probably depends on how drunk you are.

One of the better so-bad-that-it's-good films. There's a constant flow of WTF-moments and nudity to keep you entertained. It's quite poorly done and has oddly framed shots and editing which makes it hard to keep track where the action is supposed to take place. There's also very little "Samurai" in this and the rare occasions where our hero demonstrates his knowledge of Japanese culture are ridiculous. Good choice to watch with a group of friends and a 6-pack.

When you look for a "so bad it's good" movie, there's something endearing about it. Here, there's just nothing. It's a buddy cop flick that weirdly flirts with being a porno, filled with terrible dialogue, poor editing and sound, and abysmal choreography. It's the type of movie they show on TV on Sunday afternoons, thinking normal people would be watching football, which has much better violent action (albeit with fewer samurai swords).

Samurai Cop. The Cop that knows how to chop. This movie seems a lot older than a 90's film. It has a really dated feel to it, I'm not sure if it was purposeful or not or if it was just bad film equipment and editing that went into this project. One thing I will say about this movie is that it is pretty dang funny. It has some really dumb gory scenes that look really fake, hilarious editing like the guy getting run over by the car or falling down the stairs...

This flick tends to follow up its moments of sheer campy charm with mind-bogglingly crass ones with some degree of consistency. The most obvious example is the Rocky-IV-like plea for the proper treatment of innocent immigrants in a soliloquy by the protagonist followed up with our heroes making fun of a guy's accent. On occasion it's a hilarious combination. On other occasions it's just standard junk. The soundtrack got me through the whole thing more than whatever was happening v
