Sadie McKee

A mostly solid domestic melodrama as Sadie has to deal with three complex and intertwined romantic relationships (while making it not look like she's just leaping up the social ladder). Crawford is quite good, going from love-struck innocent to spurned lover to vengeful wraith. Unfortunately, a large chunk of this requires you to laugh at alcoholism and that gets pretty old quickly.

Joan Crawford and her future husband Franchot Tone square off again. Well, sort of. Crawford have other love interests in this movie. Her criminal boyfriend and the money of her drunken other guy.... in a way. It's not that simple. But it does touch on how unpredictable life can be. The movie deals with high-class/servant culture and alcoholism. And with that it gets a bit too melodramatic. But it's an emotional movie in typical Crawford style.
