Charming and witty update of Wilder’s film actually bests it in most departments – Holden still beats an underutilised Kinnear, but Ford and Ormand work magic together, in this fanciful fairytale with PRETTY WOMAN overtones. It’s easy to forget how masterful Pollack was at directing sly comedy, and he wrings the most from his flawless, sometimes unexpected casting choices (who knew Crenna and Dickinson could be such a deadly double-act?) The nice 90s prestige gloss is just the icing on the cake.

Ford may be a solid actor, but he just isn't cut out to be a romantic lead. His performance and Ormond's are hit and miss throughout the movie, with the "hit" moments owed to Pollack's direction or careful choice of takes in the editing room. The script is so-so but has some really deep and/or clever lines, too (as you would expect from Billy Wilder). The overall story is not bad, but the stiff performances and the occasionally lame narrative flow don't do much to make it rise above mediocrity.

Original with Audrey Hepburn was better, but this is a decent remake, except that Harrison Ford was just not right in his part.

Ford beats Bogart on the smolder, but not on getting older, and until her trip to Paris, Ormond looks about 16. ~ This is as unadventurous in its adaptation as expected and sorely lacks Wilder's flair, but it generally moves from beat to beat inoffensively, occasionally tickling, pulling a smile or heartstring. I think it fumbles the last act a bit, skirting a little too close to romantic cliche and cringe-tastrophie, but it more or less keeps afloat. Not Billy Wilder... not needed... not bad.

Love the characters. Very witty. Beautifully filmed. Excellent locations. So classy. Julia Ormond can read all the maudlin VO exposition she likes & I will listen forever. But only Julia, okay? Everyone else really needs to stop. This film did the Wistfully Nostalgic VO Introduction to end ALL Wistfully Nostalgic VO introductions. WNVOIs were born & died in this movie, like Baby Jesus, for this sins of all that came before, so no one else has to ever do it again. No one, Saoirse Ronan. Stop.

There are some movies that one simply cannot fathom why anyone would attempt a remake. Sabrina is one of them. And when it's no better than this, it's all the more mystifying.

Julia Ormand has huge shoes to fill and falls flat. Harrison Ford is wooden and this remake lacks any of the charm of the original. It's not terrible but does beg the question, why remake a classic when you have nothing to add?

A very faithful reproduction of the original, better production values of course with the more modern technology but... I guess with nothing to add there is no reason not to watch the Hepburn/Bogarde version again instead. Indeed some of the humour was lost - the cookery course in Paris was replaced by some, admitably artistic, fashion shoots.

Bad but the actors are lovable. Not an altogether terrible romantic comedy.

More isn't always better, ventures the eponymous heroine. "Sometimes it's just more." Truer words never fell on deafer ears. Pollack's update of Billy Wilder's fairy-tale-for-grownups is, by virtue of fidelity to its forebear, a well-constructed piece of work, and (major assist to cameraman Giuseppe Rotunno) a gleamingly polished one to boot. Chiefly what it adds of its own, however, is fat and flab.

I'm really not much for "old" films. To me basically anything made before 1999 seems antiquated. But this was really enjoyable, despite being a bit antiquated.

Greg Kinnear and Harrison Ford were good casting choices, but the woman who played Sabrina was completely terrible. She singlehandedly ruined the remake.

Far too slow to work that well, as comedy or as romance. Even if you saw this version first (like I did), Billy Wilder's tale is still better
