Amitabh Bachchan's first film. A Muslim poet Anwar Ali (Amitabh Bachchan), along with five other men who are all of different religions and are from different parts of the country, join Maria (Shenaaz), a native of Portuguese-occupied Goa, to raise nationalist sentiment in that state by hoisting Indian flags on Portuguese forts and buildings.
