This delivers on the promised fun that the cultural fusion of the premise offers. Jackie Chan's action comedy works on a level of physical humor and visual storytelling that recalls silent film stars. And Chris Tucker's character perfectly shows how a real life Def Comedy Jam performer would play in reality. The flaws are minor: a villain from a Simpson's McBain clip, some dated references, and tactless jokes during suspense. But those are small quibbles. This is the 90's best buddy cop movie.

Everyone seems to give it a hard time for embracing some racism but you know what? Whatever. Everyone in the movie knows it's a joke and not meant to be taken serious so I don't see why the audience should get all uppity about it. Blazing Saddles has horrendous racism and it's all the more funny for it (not that I'm saying this even in the same league as Blazing Saddles). Jackie Chan has some great stunts and Chris Tucker's actually funny.

This should be typical buddy cop fare but it's significantly elevated by its smartly written script, which allows the mismatched central pair, who have effortless chemistry, to command big laughs through Tucker's fast talking and Chan's inventive martial artistry. The pace is relentless and the set-pieces are great fun, demonstrating a surprising level of competence behind the camera from director Brett Ratner.

By the time Jackie Chan got to Hollywood, he had a mythic presence for me, despite having only seeing Rumble in the Bronx. Here was a dude who kicked ass and did his own stunts! It's a buddy cop movie. So expect action, humor, and the main duo to not get along super well at first. In Rush Hour that's due to some major cultural and nationality differences. The jokes maybe lean a bit too heavy on those difference and Tucker can be a bit too loud and obnoxious, but it also manages to be funny and enjoyable to watch. It's by no means a deep movie, but then again it's a buddy cop movie. When are they ever?

A clever concept that allowed Chris Tucker to really show his comedic chops, Rush Hour also plays to Jackie Chan's martial arts skills while finding a way of making his accent play into the humor of the situation. Cheerfully entertaining LETHAL WEAPON rip-off finds its own feet in Chan and Tucker's perfectly matched odd-couple; we come for Chan's expectedly breathless action stunts, but it's Tucker who steals the show here, with the most endearing version of his crass motormouth to date. Lacks the savage brutality which would come to define these sort of films in favour of an infectiously upbeat, lively tone which makes this barrels of fun. Having Wilkinson and one-scene-wonder Hall around doesn't hurt!

Rush Hour is a great comedy action movie. Chris Tucker is a local LA cop who has to babysit Jackie Chan while he is in LA. This was one of the first big American blockbusters for Jackie Chan and he paired well with Tucker. Tucker is at his best here. He is funny, cocky, yet likable. The story was pretty well done as well. The reveal of Jintau was surprising to me the first time I watched it. I really liked the Hispanic cop who helps Tucker's character. It is just dumb fun and that's it.

"Rush Hour" might be quite unoriginal in both its plot and its characters, but the great thing is that it doesn't matter. And that's because here is a prime example of a buddy-cop movie done right: fast-paced, action-packed and funny as hell. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make for an excellent on-screen partnership: they are very enjoyable on their own and on fire whenever they appear together. "Rush Hour" hits its targets with admirable ease.

An decent action buddy cop film by Hollywood standards but far below what Jackie Chan is capable of. In terms of action it was a pretty big letdown but on the positive side of things Jackie Chan finally got the recognition he deserves. However, too much of the film is dominated by Chris Tucker cracking race and wise ass jokes which appealed mostly to the teen and frat crowd.

Not a comedy masterpiece, but watching this in the 2020's makes me ache and hurt for comedy that isn't afraid to offend on all fronts. Addressing their targets as equals. Some of the jabs thrown in this movie are not only hilarious but cannot be replicated until the 2030's when we've finally progressed past the toxicity that is DEI/PC/cultural sensitivity.

Sometimes I watch a film and basically forget what happened. That's not always an indication of a bad film, it might be more my state of mind at the time. But only twice in the annals of me-watching-films have I forgotten that I watched a film at all ... only to discover as I rewatched it that yes, I saw the opening, oh yes, I saw this bit too, and the next bit, in fact all the bits. Those films were Throw Mama from the Train, and Rush Hour. It made Zero lasting impression on me.

A fairly standard buddy cop comedy, it doesn't really do anything daring with its plot or dynamics. Jackie Chan is the obvious highlight of the whole thing with his comedic timing and doing his own fighting. It passes the time, easy enough to watch, but it's not really all that funny apart from a few jokes and action sequences. The bloopers in the credits were definitely the funniest part.

Rush Hour is a harmlessly entertaining action comedy that is carried by the odd but amusing buddy cop pairing of Jackie Chan & Chris Tucker. The plot is serviceable and there's nothing particularly groundbreaking on show. But the set pieces are enjoyable and Jackie Chan's stunts are impressive as always. The humour is borderline annoying though and Chris Tucker is more exhausting than ever. As buddy cop pairings go, this is no Lethal Weapon. But in their own way the duo of Chan & Tucker works.

I wish I hadn't seen this movie. The action is decent, but the problem is that there's only about 90 seconds of action in this movie. But worry not, because the humor in this movie is there to save everyone from being bored out of their minds! or at least, it tries to. In reality, the ever-predictable and rarely funny attempts at humor make this movie possibly even worse to sit through. I don't even want to know what Rush Hour 2 is like.
