I'm not usually partial to liking the "traditional" Finnish movies, but this one had a nice edge to it and was far more powerful than many other similar movies I have seen. I just hope that the Finnish movie industry would stop recycling the same old actors over and over again. They are good, but do we need to see them in every movie?

This film sums up the films of Aleksi Mäkelä: trying hard and rarely succeeding. In the story bullish small time crooks are seen as the "good ol' boys" and the petty violence they use to intimidate and scare their part of Helsinki is seen as a good joke. "Rööperi" would be alot more insightful movie about the criminal underclass, if its makers weren't so intent on making amends for the violence that its characters inflict. Well known actors from other Mäkelä films give tired performances

Trying hard and failing harder. It doesn't manage to escape the sadly persistent diseases of Finnish cinema: flat televisual style & well-known but tired old actors.
