What could possibly go wrong with remaking a dated film portraying a sport relying on a dated mode of transportation? I hear the sequel is going to feature Chris Klein hitting a wheel rim with a stick down the road.

[Yelling in Russian]: The Movie This was probably the worst movie I had ever seen in a cinema. As something to put on the TV streaming 21 years later it doesn't even hold a candle anymore but baby does it ever try. Incomprehensible gobbledygook, I cannot tell you a single character name the movie acts like we are all thar guy who gets his head totally rocked in by a rollerball in the start. I form words watch image maybe booba

James Caan needs to find the people responsible for this and dropkick them with rollerskates on. Those big, clunky 70's ones, not these pissy little rollerblades.

No one deserved to go to federal prison for this movie, but I feel like the people who hated this movie so much would be happy to know that the director did in fact go to federal prison because of this movie.

Rollerball is terrible. Klein, Cool J, Romijn and Reno are all terrible. The direction is terrible. The set design is terrible. The script is terrible. The music is terrible. Everything is terrible. I'd like to believe there are a twin pair of Jean Renos, and the one starring in this film is the evil one.

I see the Criticker summary lists "Comedy" under the genres for this movie. For those who have yet to see the movie, please note that all humor in this movie is unintentional. Oh, and don't adjust your DVD player's settings. It's not on slow motion...the action in the movie is really that sluggish.

There's an extended scene in this movie (unusually long by its standards, even) that's shot entirely in poor night vision that manages to evoke the sterile horror of the long since passed Gulf War while presaging much of our contemporary calamity, the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and scores more. The scene also has multiple instances of Looney Tunes sound effects. If you're looking for a distillation of this movie I can't think of anything better than that.

Rollerball? Seriously? Who the fuck thought this was a good idea. Jean Reno, I love you and all, but fuck, man. You can't do The Professional and Wasabi and then turn around and do Rollerball.

I was highly skeptical that McTiernan's re-make of 1975's excellent Rollerball could be as bad as people said. I should have listened. It's somewhat baffling that someone who has made stuff as incredible as McTiernan has could make something this bad on all levels. While the very broad plot outlines are clear, it's nearly incomprehensible and the way it's shot only amplifies this. The commentary is tired and old and is a downgrade from the original's.

Another in a series of ugly, incoherent messes that unkindly makes you think McTiernan just got lucky with his bigger successes – having now seen both versions of ROLLERBALL, I remain mystified by the rules or purpose of the game, or indeed why anyone in ROLLERBALL world would have interest in watching it – this is just a glitzy, hollow and curiously depressing experience; it’s especially sad to see Reno spitting and blustering in what presumably would have been the Nicolas Cage role. Urgh.

I first saw it at 12 years old and I thought it was a bit cool but not too much, back then. Seeing it as an adult, I see there are very many flaws and awkward cheesiness. Which is a shame since it obscures the parts about corruption

the NV set-piece strips the sparkle of commerce to reveal the grimy desert war beneath, and the opening's disastrous cashgrab stunt is reimagined in a finale which places us in the POV of the exploiter blasted through the screen by the exploited. it's intriguing as satire, but unlike i.e. SPEED RACER the hideous, instantly dated aesthetics, cardboard characters and noseclonking capitalist caricatures mean there's no sense of complicity; he needs to aim that ball about 50 yards higher to hit me.

This remake was one of the worst decisions in Hollywood history, but at least they did it horribly. I notice McTiernan hasn't had much work since this stinker hit the water.

Having not seen the original, I didn't think this was necessarily awful as some make you believe. There is tons of action, the heavy cutting style of directions leaves a lot to be desired. There are some good and memorable scenes to make this basically an average movie.

If this was an original idea that I saw this on the SyFy channel on a Sunday, I'd give it a pass - but as a remake of a classic?! You can pick out something cheap, crappy, lame, cliche or all of the above from EVERY scene.

Rollerball is ridiculous. I don't think it could be something different. But it takes itself too seriously, which is a problem when your material is this bad, is handled poorly, and doesn't make sense. Nothing in this film works. Go watch the original if you want to see basically the same film, but slightly better. Otherwise, you're better watching any sport on cable. This is a terrible film on all possible levels, and you're better off using your time for pretty much anything else.

It's a stylistic mess (the night vision scene in particular is terrible), it's blatantly catered to teens, and the ending is pretty stupid. That being said, I don't find it as offensively awful as many others do - in my mind, it fell apart, rather than being consistently bad throughout - which I will attribute to watching it after pulling an all-nighter.

Apparently the original was supposed to be some sort of sci-fi movie, and this one is a sports-fi movie and that's not even a genre. And this isn't even close to being good.

Re-imagination of the 1975 cult classic. Laughable scenarios, seriously ailing editing, corny script, lackluster performances and grave miscasting (the sensitive Klein as a macho macho man) make this one a prime candidate for contraction.

When I was a kid, there was this video camera that had a night-vision feature. I wanted the camera more than anything and would dream up these scenarios that I could capture even in the darkness of the night. At no point did I, even as a young tyke, conclude that I should shoot half a feature film with it. The director of 'Die Hard', one of the best action movies of all time, came to this decision when shooting 'Rollerball'. Night-vision isn't the least of its problems, but you're spent by then.

I didn't think it was as awful as everybody else but I was expecting a really dumb movie. I know I won't win anybody's respect with this review but I thought it was fun at the time. Don't remember much...maybe I should watch again to see if it's as unenjoyable as people are claiming.

Astonishingly bad. Rushed, uninteresting, INCREDIBLE in how poorly conceived it is. I don't think I'll ever be able to understand why this got greenlit, or better yet, why anyone thought of doing this in the first place. But amazingly, every element of this is equally badly thought out. If you enjoy watching bad films with friends, you won't find better opportunities than this. Truly MST3K worthy, though the LL Cool J commentary should work just as well.
