This one was pretty good; Taylor is a bit hit and miss with me, but he's good here. The narrative and the dialogue could use a bit more punch, but they're both still effective. The whole thing just flows effortlessly through its beats and that makes for an enjoyable ride.

Very fine character drama with some riveting scenes, resonant themes of corruption, and strong performances. Taylor is fantastic in the lead, but the real highlight is George Raft and Anne Francis as the gangster and his moll, in a sadistic relationship reminiscent of The Big Heat. Some other great supporting roles by Leigh, Simon and Ellerstein. Rowland directs with not much flair, but makes really compelling use of close-ups. Just a solid flick all-around, well worth a look.
