Rodeo

"Rodeo" earns a 6 out of 10 for its intriguing look at a unique world and Ledru's captivating performance. However, the film's lack of emotional depth and compelling storytelling, as well as its monotonous tone, prevent it from achieving its full potential. While it offers some interesting themes and moments, the overall experience may not be wholly satisfying for all viewers.

Quivoron’s film sometimes plays more like a series of meaningful moments than a propulsive narrative, vehicular mayhem and all. But that feels purposeful. Some lives may not have definition but that doesn’t mean they lack meaning.

Marries a portrait of identity and belonging to a refreshingly enthralling style that left me unexpectedly yet completely entranced. What's particularly great about Rodeo is that it doesn't spoon-feed the audience too much information, but allows you to interpret things on your own as to the main character's backstory and purpose. Think the Dardennes meets Andrea Arnold set in the underground dirt bike culture. Cinematography, music and sound design are ace and Julie Ledru is a true revelation.
