Well, it's not much you haven't seen before, but Rocky's lovable knucklehead charm (thanks to the underrated acting skills of Stallone) still holds it's appeal. It's a movie all about nostalgia. Rocky's nostalgic in a nostalgic story about nostalgia, and somewhere, somehow it kinda rubs off. Gonna go cry a bit now.

As often as he appears on screen, Rock remains a pretty lovable lug. And, fittingly enough, this is a lovable lug of a movie: flawed and not exactly groundbreaking, yet charming and engaging. You can't help but root for the guy. I was surprised at how much Rocky's ambitions and reflections moved me. Definitely heads above the terrible fifth entry.

Takes a little while to get on it's feet, but a fine sendoff for the Rocky franchise. Stallone really does a better job with this role than some may think. Yes, it's got it's share of corny lines, but it's so hard not to root for Rocky. Not as good as the first one, but much better than V.

After the horrible Rocky V this was a breath of fresh air that surpasses even that of the Rambo rebirth. Stallone proves that he can make a film, and do it well. It's not perfect, but it's at least as good as the original film. Really enjoyable, like no Rocky film before it it actually manages to pack an emotional punch along with the action. A worthy end to the series, and the only sequel the first film ever really needed. Also, Mike Tyson.

Rocky is the fucking man, and I did cry at the end. This was the perfect way to end this 'logue. Obby said something about "the best in the series after what is viewed as the worst in the series", and I agree with that. Tarver did a great job too portraying a heavyweight even though he's only I believe a middleweight fighter. "Balboa" is as much about Rocky letting go of boxing and the past as it is about Sly letting go of Rocky, and it was absolutely beautiful how he (they) come(s) full circle.

A fitting farewell by Sly to his favorite creation. We've seen it all before, but this sequel comes the closest to recapturing the underdog/feel good vibe of the original. Although at times sentimental, the solid performance by Stallone lifts this film above the declining quality of most of the follow-ups in the series.

Rocky Balboa is the fitting finale that the series and character deserved. Sylvester Stallone brilliantly recaptures the heart of the original and gives Rocky the perfect send off. I grew up with these films and they mean an awful lot to me. And nostalgically this film is a throwback to Rocky's glory days. Burt Young is integral also and the writing, score, training montage and final fight all live up to the Rocky mantle. But above all else, Rocky Balboa has a tremendous amount of heart.

Stallone does an easily believable job portraying Balboa in his advanced years that feels the need for one last fight just to see what he's got left. Ventimiglia does a passable job as Rocky's son but I just can't seem to like anything he attempts. Overall a fun movie that focuses more on who Balboa has become then the fight near the end, a fight I found to be sort of an homage to Balboa's first bout.

Probably the best Rocky film since the original, and without a doubt the best dramatic Rocky film since the original (keeping in mind that III is really an action flick). It returns the series to its character study roots, this time coupling that with the added layer of exploring what it means to age out of relevance. It's much better acted than the last couple Rockys - from the veterans and newbies alike - is visually engaging, deeply moving, and has a gripping final fight. Great film.

A fitting end to the story, I always felt that Rocky V ended on a bit of a sour note. So I felt it did justice to the character to give him that one last shot. Obviously it's silly, and ludicrous, and laughable in places, but Rocky has never been about that. It's about feeling a connection with the character, and this has that connection in spades.

A return to the basic formula of the first movie. Occasional over-sentimentality notwithstanding, Rocky Balboa is effective feel-good stuff. Cheesily enough, the drama is sort of held together by Rocky's heroic determination, righteousness and unconditional niceness to people, but it's hard not to get pulled in by it. What's really spectacular, though, is the bout, which is extremely well-staged. All-in-all, this final sequel is possibly the best since the first Rocky.

So, while admitting this could have been a lot worse, I would still say this is a pretty awful film. It's a really ugly film. It's bright and over lit with an odd shiny tinge to everything. The climactic boxing match is a hideous match with a million ridiculous edits and cuts to black and white for no discernible reason, and flashbacks cut into the middle of the fight. The script ain't so hot either. Characters get long meandering monologues that ultimately arrive at no clear point.

Rocky struggles to come to terms with the death of his wife and his own faded glory. His restaurant is effectively a shrine to his former self, and he is reduced to telling old war stories to customers who already know them by heart. This existential dilemma makes for solid drama, but Sly can't help but offer a daft solution: throwing old Rocky in the ring again for one last bout. Thankfully the fight is well staged, but this cathartic act is too contrived (and convenient) for its own good.

The original "Rocky" was an sports underdog story, one of the most loved ones in the last 50 years. Forty years later, Stallone penned the the sixth in the series. Here he shows his age in more than one way, the story focuses more on loss and coming to terms with aging rather than simply overcoming a difficult fight. It's a fitting change, and one that makes this movie actually better than the original, but also leads a strange truncated training and fight at the end.

Pulls the same trick as The Force Awakens 10 years earlier, expertly working the heart strings through nostalgia and working wonders by letting us watch the latter days of our old heroes. Yes, some of the speeches are sappy, some of the supporting acting is weak, but goddamn it if the magic isn't still there and if seeing Rocky as an old man grieving doesn't bring tears to my eyes. The day I don't get shivers down my spine watching Sly run up those stairs you can just call the coroner already.

I would've forgotten this forever (one fight for Rocky and a video game warm-up fight) if it weren't for Youtube's speeches videos. The let me fight speech is fine but the father-son "...that's what losers do and that ain't you. YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT!" is pretty great. Aside factoid: I saw a real Tarver fight where he was destroying some guy and mid-fight he stopped, turned to the ref and asked, "Are you trying to kill him?" No response. He shrugs and knocks the guy down again.

The result is a Rocky Balboa who is as human and humble as you've ever seen him. He's determined to help people such as Marie and Steps, Spider Rico, his son and even Paulie reach their potential and engage fully in life, even as he struggles to do the same. And it's Rocky's contribution to the lives of those around him that make him--and this film--a success. Relationships, not championships, are what matter most here. (pluggedin.com)

This is a good ending for Rocky. I liked the story, although I think the fight was the weakest of the Rocky movies I've seen. It wasn't bad, just not as good as the fights in I-III. Paulie managed to annoy me, but it wouldn't be a Rocky movie if Paulie didn't have a few scenes being an ass. Mason Dixon is definately the weakest opponent for Rocky. He didn't have the personality of Apollo or Clubber Lang. His motivation for fighting Rocky also wasn't as interesting. Still, this was a solid movie.

Definitely the best of the ROCKY films, but could not exist without the warmth generated from familiarity with the other entries - and it could only have been pulled off by Stallone at a point in his own career where redemption, and recounciliation of his own impact on pop culture, was urgently needed. The film also works brilliantly on its own terms; outstanding work by Stallone as writer, director and star ultimately delivers a climactic bout guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Perhaps not the most necessary of installments, this film is, at the very least, a return to form for the Rocky franchise after the fourth took a turn toward the silly and over-the-top. Sly has shown here that he can not only make good film, but he can also remember the heart of the title character, who has always been a likeable, if simple man. A fitting conclusion to the series, that like other films released at the time celebrates that age does not determine capability.

The final fight in Rocky Balboa perfectly reflects the film as a whole: massively underwhelming, devoid of any tension or excitement, simply trying (and failing) to hark back to the better days of the original. A nostalgia trip you don't wanna take, this is quite possibly the worst film of the series and so unashamedly referential it's aimed squarely at fanboys. Sly's face is so distracting (looking like he's acting through a cheap plastic Sylvester Stallone mask) you can't concentrate.
