In the silent era Harry Piel was a superstar. Think of him as a German Douglas Fairbanks. A Fairbanks influenced by European crime serial madness. His films action-packed, stunt based and filled with weird ideas. Unfortunately most of his silent films were destroyed during the World War II bombings. Rivalen [Rivals] (1923) features massive parties, killer robots, underwater traps, and general hilarity. All designed by the rival to get the girl. Cheesy and wonderful at the same time.
